Winpwn 2.0.0.2 on Xp - ALWAYS fails to create ipsw
I have done a clean install of Winpwn 2.0.0.2
I have got itunes 7.7
I have got the bootloaders, and the 2.0 restore firmware
I add Cydia and select the correct advanced settings (got them from some linked guides)
But everytime i go to build ipsw, it gets to rebuilding root......
then winpwn either crashes or says 'ipsw creation failed!'
could anyone suggest what the problem could be?
thanks.

yep, have uninstalled 1.0 winpwn, deleted the application data cmw folder, then installed 2.0 have reinstalled 2.0 a couple of times, with and without deleteing the cmw folder.
ive tried so many different combinations but it still doesnt want to work.
EDIT: i just tried to run winpwn on my other pc which has more ram (first one had 256, the second 512).... and it worked first time. i read that winpwn uses 300mb ram at peak, maybe this is a problem for older machines?Last edited by m73a; 07-25-2008 at 03:22 AM.

I actually almost got Winpwn 2.0 to run on my XP by shutting off my anti virus. Probably a ram issue. 2.0.2 ran perfectly building custom ipsw. Just havent restored with it yet. Going away in a few hours for teh weekend and dont want to mess with it till I get home.

do you have any other programs running in the background that might be using system resources?
i'm running win xp with sp3 and it worked flawlessly for me. i rebooted. closed all unessential programs, including iTunes. I did this by hitting ctrl-alt-del and using the task manager. i then followed the instructions on iClarified's website. the whole process took about 6 minutes.

other than maybe trying to upgrade to sp3 or uninstalling/reinstalling everything associated with winpwn (which you have already probably done several times), i'm out of suggestions.
hopefully somebody else has an answer.

i had same problem. i downloaded custom restore from a different site then the one i had before and it let me build my IPSW that time. i think some of the files are missing a file so find a few custom restore files and try to build it then. it should work. i am on xp, with service pack 3, 7.7 itunes, etc., etc.
i used to pray to the Lord every night and ask Him for a bicycle- but then i realized that God doesn't work that way, so I stole one and prayed for Him to forgive me...

If winpwn crashes while building the ipsw, uninstall, and make sure you go into program files and delete the folder, reinstall and it will work.
I had the same problem.

My suspicion is that it's caused by not enough system memory during the process. I had 512 and tried closing all programs (antivirus and everything else), but it kept crashing (version 2.0.0.1, 2, & 3). I have a second computer that I haven't used in a while so I took a stick of 256 out of it.
Next time I started I closed out all the programs and I did everything the same (boot image, Cydia, and etc), this time SUCCESS!!!!
If your running 512 on an XP machine. COME ON PENNY PINCHER GO BUY MORE MEMORY. Think about it...you just bought an iPhone you can spend $50 on a stick to upgrade your memory.
Now on to the next step.
BTW. I picked EVIL MONKEY!

the only thing they seem to be doing right is change to a diffrent computer.
wich would indicate that the uninstall of winpwn is not completely removing everything and that they have succes because their other pc's didnt have the old winpwn installed.
so then the question remains how to make it work if you dont have another machine other then completely reinstalling windows couse that will fix removing whatever the uninstaller doesnt do
