re-started from step 1 and got error code 1602 again
what do you mean...how will itunes do it for me?
THANK GOD IT WORKED!!!!!
shaileshashar- Thank you so much. You were right. Didn't put it into DFU mode, just opened up ITUNES and hit shift+restore and it did it all on its on. At first after everything changed over it didn't look like it was going to be unlocked, but sure enough everything turned out just fine.
Thanks for the guide to doing this. I'm stoked. 5.5 hours later after first starting all this I'm finally done and can go to bed

Sweet! After several tries and a near heartattack when my phone got stuck in DFU at one point I finally got this to work.
I had a 1st Gen iPhone running 1.1.4 firmware. I used Winpwn to pwn the phone and install 1.1.4 with Bootneuter, updated to 4.9BL and unlocking the Baseband.
The method that worked for me was pretty simple too. No DFU mode at all. Just plug the phone in, go to iTune and shift-click Restore. Select the custom firmware (I used the one from the original post) and let it restore as normal.
Everytime I tried from DFU I got the error 1601 or 1602. Perhaps I was not properly in DFU mode but my screen was black and iTunes came up saying it needed to update the device as one would expect. Either way the DFU seems unnecessary and more complicated.

U gotta leave the bootneuter on...to get this custom restore to work...and u get bootneuter automatically if u have pawned ur iphone using Winpwn...so just pwn it using Winpwn to 1.1.4 and follow the steps...u should be fine
u also get bootneuter from installer...but i am not sure how it works if u used ziphone earlier and try to use bootneuter now....coz
the process of jailbreaking/unlocking by ziphone is totally different from winpwnLast edited by neoanantha; 07-20-2008 at 09:31 AM.

I got it right the first time, well kinda.
winpwnd my phone [you have to at least select the 1.1.4 firmware file to get to the pwn screen]
Tried loading up the custom firmware in the recovery mode that my phone went to after pwning, got an error5
Put phone in DFU
Tried loading up the custom firmware in that mode got an error 1
Realized i was a dumba$$ for using an old version of itunes
upgraded ITunes
Restarted
Loaded custom firmware through itunes
Good to go
Only problem is, I had extended prefs on my phone, and I think thats why my phone is going in a constantly restarting every 30 seconds

iClarified - iPhone - How to Put an iPhone Into DFU Mode
2. Shift Restore in iTunes - Windows | Option restore in MAC
3. Wait until Restore Process Finishes
4. Thats all, just wait after Bootneuter finishes... Important!
5. Thats all - Activated/Unlocked/Jailbreaked
Allready installed OpenSSH -
on first try to SSH the iPhone not work, give some 2 or 3 tryes to connect...
This firmware works for Booth Bootloaders 4.6 and 3.9
================================================== ==========
if i help you, give me Thanks
UPDATE
EXPLANATION and some Fixes
1. Why DFU mode?
In DFU mode iTunes Wipes Phone clear and then restores it, this avoids previus PWNAGES and unlocks...
2. If you get Error 1600 from iTunes (or if you see in your log a failure to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw), try: mkdir ~/Library/iTunes/”Device Support” ; if that
directory already exists, remove any files in it.
3. If DFU restores are giving you trouble, another route to pwned 2.0 for 1G owners is to use our first pwnage at 1.1.4. Once you are pwned there, you can do a normal recovery-mode restore to your custom 2.0 ipsw. BTW the iPhone does *not* need to be pre-pwned to be able to DFU-restore into a pwned ipsw — it needs to be pre-pwned only for normal recovery-mode restores of custom ipsw’s."

So if I real all this correctly, if I am currently running 1.1.4 and had already Pwned my phone all I need to do is use iTunes to restore this custom firmware? In other words, I have a 1.1.4 jailbroken with Winpwn it is already on the 3.9 bootloader as that was what was originally on the iPhone and I never upgraded it. This sounds too easy.

If I've helped you, you can help me by clicking on that Thanks button.
