iPod Touch 3.1.2 + Blackra1n = No JB/Blackscreen/Restore
Ok, first post here because honestly, I need big time help. I have a latest gen (3rd I believe) iPod Touch I got about 2 weeks ago. Software version 3.1.2.
I jailbroke the touch when I first got it with Blackra1n RC3. It worked perfectly the first time. I installed cydia, winterboard, etc... and every time I had to reboot, the tethered jailbreak with Blackra1n worked perfectly again. No issues what-so-ever.
Fast forward to about 3 days ago. I accidentally let the touch go down to zero (0) percent battery and turn off. No big deal right? Just re-run Blackra1n and j/b.... Well, that didn't work at all.
Booted into DFU, made it rain, nothing. Just went to a black screen. Power was on, as I could see the backlight on the LCD, but no geo. Blackra1n said I was done, easiest jb, yadda yadda yadda... but nothing happened.
I did a hard reset with the home/power buttons, and re ran Blackra1n. Nothing. Did this about 20 times, with no change.
So I did a restore to 3.1.2 and update in iTunes. After that was done, I made it rain, and it worked... Yay? No. Installed cydia, device restarted, and I'm right back where I started. Blackscreen, nothing. I've noticed that if I leave the touch after the failed j/b attempt for long enough, it just resets and boots back normally.
Any ideas on what's wrong? Why is Blackra1n all of the sudden doing this? I've re dl'd from the blackra1n site, and nothing works... Just a black screen and then you're done. But not jailbroken...

i would suggest a full DFU restore.
unplug ipod from comp and plug it back in(if its already plugged), open itunes.
Then hold power+home for 10sec, then continue to hold home but let go of power for 10 more secs. You should hear a beep from computer(if speakers are on and at decent volume) and it should appear in itunes.
From there click on the ipod and shift click restore and select the 3.1.2 firmwire.(can be downloaded from HERE)
after it is back to factory default, go in settings and make sure you have auto lock to never. and reboot the ipod and leave it on the spring board. Close itunes, and Run blackra1n RC3. Click OK to message that is about jailbreaking. DO NOT click on any itunes messages, just close itunes when it opens. This should eliminate any possible problems that can occur when jailbreaking.

Thanks for the info, but I'm still getting the same issue. I DL'd the proper firmware, did a DFU reset as you described, restored, turned off auto lock, rebooted, ran Blackra1n RC3, and just got a black screen as soon as Blackra1n started running.
Leave it be for a while after it says JB done, and it just reboots as a normal ipod...

If you're having a problem with rebooting your iPod, try downloading SBSettings from Cydia, and then, whenever it asks you to reboot your device, swipe across the signalbar at the top (that opens SBSettings), and then, press the button that says "Respring"
