oh no not another blackra1n problem...

Ok Just want to get some things out in the open.

I am not a newb. I've jailbroken my ipod touch 1g, and 2g, many times, with no problem at all (unless I used beta firmware, oops!) however, I just picked up my iphone 16gb iphone 3gs.

Time to Jailbreak.

I downloaded blackra1n RC3.

i did it the first time on my macbook, and it worked fine. no problems. did what it was supposed to do. However I felt like restoring my phone for whatever reason I don't know.

Now i'm going to do it again.

Here are my steps, and i'm not to sure where i went wrong:

- Sync my iphone 1 last time. make sure everything is correct.
- Eject iphone, turned off itunes.
- Proceed to load up blackra1n
- clicked on "MAKE IT RA1N"
- everything seems to be working. Wow that fast.
- However just sit at "done, wait for reboot"
- I see the picture of htat guy.

now heres the part where i've been frustrating over

- it boots int othe Recovery Mode, itunes logo with the usb.. whatever you call it.

- Doesn't go ANY further.

- I run BlackRa1n once again. and it goes in.

When I turn off my phone. and turn it back on. It goes back into recovery mode.

Im using Snow Leopard to do my Jailbreaking.

I've tried this udner windows 7 as well, I get the same problem.

The goal here is,

I want my phone JB'd without always have to plug it into computer and running blackra1n to get into my phon.



Solutions?

Or the best course of action?

I've even tried pwnagetool, and installed the custom firmware, it just boots me into a blackscreen. and fails. error 1600.

The new iPhone 3GS has an upgraded iBoot which closes the old jailbreak exploit. Your only option at this moment is a tethered jailbreak as you have experienced. Sorry.

Yes, sorry to hear that you got a new iBoot 3GS. Hopefully, this will be worked around some day.

But to clarify, cuz there's lots of confusion around this. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH BLACKRA1N/BLACKSN0W. This is a limitation of ALL EXISTING JB methods today with the new 3GSs built in week 40 or later. (check your serial number in Settings | General | About. The 4th and 5th digits are your build week). I'm using caps not to yell at the OP, who seems to get it, but at alot of others who think that Blackra1n is ONLY capable of a tethered JB for ALL devices. That's simply not true.

If that's an issue with the 3GS, then why am I experiencing the same issue with a iTouch 3rd Gen?

I am having somewhat similar problem with iphone 3g 16gig??? I had unlocked on 3.1 with pwngtool to avoid making phone unlockable, (i am at&t customer however), I was having problems with cydia,( clicking on app but would not open, just straight back to springboard), so I decided to update and use blackra1n new jailbreak and unlock. I updated in itunes to 3.2.1 and downloaded blackra1n to windows cp, closed itunes and proceeded to make it rain. everything worked great first time, blackra1n installed correctly,( however itunes popes up when phone goes into recovery mode), but still installed ok. I installed cydia via blackra1n and also did snow to unlock. Tried using cydia but again when clicking on it it started to open but went right back to springboard??? Figured I'd do a complete restore to clean it out. went through entire process again and this time trying to install cydia from blackra1n it tells me i lost internet connection, was clueless here, i deleted the blackra1n app from iphone, figuring to just install again.....everytime i have tried since it goes through process but no blackra1n app ever shows on phone, see the guy and everything during recovery and install but no app. did this several times and now when i try to install blackra1n it puts the phone into recovery mode and stops there, making me have to do a restore again and eveytime i try on itunes??? What could i be doing wrong??? anyone? the only thing i can think of is when itunes starts back up when the phone enters recovery mnode during blackra1n install but now that it wont even go through full install i am really stuck? please help? and sorry for the length if you made it all the way through thank you!
