Upgrading baseband 05.09.xx to 05.11.xx

A friend has an iPhone 3G which was accidentally upgraded to 3.1 and baseband 05.09.xx, which made it un-unlockable. I've been telling her to wait patiently for this day - geohot has announced blacksn0w which unlocks 05.11.xx.

Now all I need to figure out is how to upgrade the baseband of her 3G from 05.09.xx to a blacksn0w-unlockable 05.11.xx. If I run another update, I might risk going beyond 06.xx.xx, so I just want to know the way to get 05.09.xx to 05.11.xx.

Alternatively, would the blacksn0w exploit also work with 05.09.xx?

Right now there is only 05.11. So you could just update to 3.1.2 when it releases (which upgrades the bb to current), then use blackra1n. It will take a little bit for Apple to check his work and fix it with another bb update.

Oh, okay. I thought I read some post saying someone had gotten 06.02.xx on their 3G. Hmmm.. alright. This sounds good, then!

Is there any way to detect which baseband is being sent out in an ipsw?

This one, for eg: iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw

Ugh, just checked her phone and it's indeed 05.11.07! I remember Fuzzyband Downgrader telling me it was 05.09.xx.. I guess it lied!

It probably said she had bootloader 5.9. All current ipsw have the 05.11.xx bb.

yup yup!!! i just did it and it worked a-okay!!!



It was already jailbroken (using custom IPSW) but I ran blackra1n again. It jb'd. Then I put blackra1n.com repo in cydia. installed blacksn0w. it said the comm centre was restarted so reboot is not necessary, but the phone didn't receive any calls until it was restarted.

yaay!

btw - the 3g is still on 3.1 (7C144) and this worked fine. Didn't have to upgrade to 3.1.2 (7D11).
