my friend just bought his 3g iphone, im here to help him jailbreak it.
his device is already on 2.2.1 firmware, how do i make it to 2.2 firmware to unlock and jailbreak it with quickpwn thank you

You can't unlock it once it has been upgraded to 2.2.1

No. Because once its been upgraded to FW 2.2.1 the baseband is upgraded as well and from what I have read the only way to unlock it is to buy a TurboSIM.

yeah thats what i was told for my new 3g on 2.2.1 so i have mine working on tmob with gev turb sim... the question i have is i prob should have JB it before I used the turb sim... so if i JB now do i lose any settings or need to re-do anything to get it working again on tmob with the turb sim??
