Iphone 3g help asap

Sorry for the capital letter thread name, this is an emergency and I REALLY need help right now!

So I decided to jailbreak my iphone 3G 16GB running on firmware 2.1

I was using this tutorial.

I got to step two when it said this...

"Step Two
Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone 3G to the computer via USB cable.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left side navigation bar. Now hold down shift while clicking the Restore button."

I did that...after it "restored", my iphone was completely ERASED! all my contacts, music, third party apps, text messages, they were ALL GONE.

And worst of all, itunes told me I was plugging in a NEW IPHONE 3G. At least I backed up my iphone right?

So I checked the "Restore from the backup of:"

Then I hit continue, and it is saying, "Restoring iPhone from backup..." And there is a loading bar going EXTREMELY SLOW.

I have some questions that i REALLY hope someone answers ASAP.

1) Will I have lost anything once this restoring process is finished? Text messages, safari cookies, voice mails, settings, third party application data, etc.

2) Did I do something wrong? Should I not have restored it to 2.1 because it was already on 2.1? Should I have just skipped the step?

3) Why is it taking so loing? It has been over an hour and it is only a little bit more then half way done!

Thank you SO MUCH

You didnt have to restore.

And anytime you do restore it WILL erase everything...you didnt know that?

Anyways, your backup should have everything on it....and yes, it will take awhile to finish.

Stupid me, I didn't back up my phone for 5 days...so I lost everything from now to 5 days ago. Whatever, just a small loss.

Yeah, that was really stupid of me. Restoring from 2.1 to 2.1 ...I'm not the brightest star in the sky.

I do stupid things like that from time to time, thanks for the message. If only you told me BEFORE I did it =]
