Thanks for the quick reply.
So I rent a SIM which gives me local number there. I still have to pay about $1 per minute to call back to USA. No problem.
But what about when someone in USA tries to call my local number there. I have free local on the rented SIM. They could use skype and call my local sim number for like $0.07 per minute. Right??
Second, when it comes to data. Will I have Edge or some equivalent and is there anyway to get 3G while I'm there.
I appreciate all the help as I haven't been abroad in like 7 years.I thought my carrier was bad til I got a new web host

So some of my soccer buddies asked that I post something about taking their iPhones to South Africa. I think everything in the post is correct, but until I go and try it out I won't know for sure.
I'd appreciate anyone reading the short article and letting me know if I gave mis-information or left something out that you think people would like to know. The post is on my site which is just my username plus the dot com or click my username, select view public profile and look at the Twitter feed which has a link (BTW, that is a really cool plugin I haven't seen on other websites)
