Nextel sim in i phone 2 g

Hi I just got a i phone 2 g and my nextel sim card does not work in the phone. It tells me no sim installed. It will not work in my buddies unlocked phone either, so is it fair to say nextel sim's are not compatible?

I thought Nextel was acquired by Sprint, and therefore CDMA?

yes nextel is CDMA . sorry man you just bought an expensive ipod touch. in the us the only sims that will work are ATT and Tmobile i do believe

Yep. While IDEN has a SIM card, it's only an iDEN SIM so it won't work with a GSM phone. It only works with other iDEN phones.
