Does the circle GPRS icon mean I am connected to internet (and therefore paying)?
I got a free 1st gen iPhone as a prize, but it was a USA AT&T phone, so I jailbroke so I could use it with my UK carrier (Virgin).
All has been fine and I only pay extra when & if I use internet when I'm not on wifi. So I decided to upgrade to 3.0 firmware thanks to the fab instructions on this forum (THANK YOU
), but now I see a circle icon where I used to see a square or wifi.
I have read here & on Apple site that this means GPRS is on - my question is does this mean it is connected / always on - and therefore am I paying?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I can't seem to find the answer and I don't want a fat bill at the end of the month.

The "circle" icon is a replacement to the "square" that you used to see back on 1.4 or w.e so if the icons worrying you now i've got a some bad news..
it's always been there.:P
Now you'll be pleased to know that unless you have push/fetch on for emails and what not, no you will be be charged.Being an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

If EDGE is disabled using BossPrefs or SBSettings ... EDGE is really OFF. Applicable to 2.x -- maybe 3.0 too (being worked on). So you're not paying -- for sure. No data IP address is displayed. I'm pretty sure it applies to GPRS as well, but never tested it.
FYI: Using BossPrefs or SBSettings .... IF you have a data IP address, the iPhone has requested internet access (and the carriers server has responded) .... so you're probably paying.
Note: My EDGE icon is ON whether it's enabled or disabled using BossPrefs or SBSettings.Last edited by Mes; 07-27-2009 at 10:18 AM.
