There has to be a way to tell Itunes that you want to overwrite the baseband.
Some one has to find that out. Its all about iTunes now.. If we can just disable that stupid security in iTunes that he Recognize a mismatch of Firmware..
Only iTunes has the Capability to write something in de Baseband. So overwriting is should be Posible.
Imagine Baseband just like a BIOS of a PC. Its a stupid Chip. And only iTunes can communicate with it.
So Programmers..begin to check iTunes now.
I`m getting Crazy with all days and days passing by and no one has a solution.. my iphone is getting old and in June there will be a New one AGAIN...damnn man

^Actually, it has nothing to do with Itunes.
If you cant gain access to the current baseband (which is the biggest problem) then you cant/dont know what needs to be modified to work in an "unlocked" state.

If its not iTunes then how or why do you get an error msg from itunes that the thing does not match. Why doesn`t he let you downgrade? Just think a little bit more..
iTunes is the medium for making the connection from new firmware to the baseband.. iTunes just stands there and make sure that the connection is stable and acts like a poiliceman there.
So iTunes really does check if the firmware and baseband are uptodate or not and there is really a code somewhere that tells it that you cannot downgrade.
Other wise if iTunes does nothins as you say....why did they use iTunes then? They could have made a stand-alone program specialy for the iphone alone for updating etc..

^Ummm, thats why we use programs like Pwnage to create Custom firmware file's to do what we want.
But again, you CANT modify the baseband (in other words unlock) if you cant gain access to it.
And I can assure you someone (like the dev team) would have thought to attack iTunes.....if itunes mattered.

Look..why do you say we CANT? You know 100% that there is Reverse Engineering. So the answer is not that we CANT..but we havent found it YET..
Thats a big difference..
And also.. if the havent attacked iTunes yet its because we only found the simple way out yet. Meaning the PWN Tool..and now that Apple has had it with us...he put some big encryption in it for nos unlocking it. Now there are other ways but we still dont knnow them..

When he says we can't what he means is no one has found a way yet - and are unlikely to do so in the near future.
It certainly isn't as simple as you seem to think - have you ever tried cracking checksums or bypassing bootloader checksums?
I'm sure, if you think it is so simple, you will be releaseing something soon....He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

They aren't going to. They are waiting for the next BB upgrade and will not unlock 2.30.03

Hi there. I see that you seem to know your stuff. I have iphone 3g JB still on FW 2.1 with AT&T and after installing "Call Controller" app from Cydia, upon cydia restart respring my phone stays stuck on the lockscreen with no way to move the slider so the phone is not accessible or receiving calls. It keeps auto respringing and then auto rebooting over and over. I was thinking maybe this was because the app was for 2.2 FW only. I have never synced the phone up with itunes since my original JB so all my paid app store apps ($100 worth) are not backed up. I just connected it to itunes which recognizes it when the lockscreen is on but when I tried to sync/back up my apps it can't finish (about a 1/3 done) before the auto reboot engages at which itunes doesn't see it. Upon auto respring itunes sees it again. Can you suggest a way to save my apps before I result to a restore? Thanks for any assistance.

Do you have SSH on your phone?
If you can SSH in you can stop it rebooting every 2 minutes. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.
