Hello,
I've been reading into the iPhone and it's various modifications ever since I started "hacking" my g/f's I touch using the marvelous software put out there by the true mind's behind all this.
One thing I have been able to find very little about, is people trying to use the iPhone on Verizon Wireless' network.
I have found a lot of people asking, and getting flat out no's. However today I decided to stop into Apple.com to see if the features offered by this device would be worth leaving Verizon (the only 'real' choice where I live) and noticed it had CDMA capabilities (presumably for greater roaming capabilities). Even before I saw that, I was wondering if the iPhone could be used on Verizon's network, just in a constantly 'roaming' state - accessing GSM but still tied to Verizon.
Through my research I have found pictures of Verizon Wireless SIM cards (Verizon/Vodaphone SIMs issued in Europe).
It just seems like the possibility is there - and I am wondering if anyone with greater skills has looked into this in depth?
My mind could rest if I could even find one file explaining why this phone cannot be used on Verizon's CDMA network even though it has the capabilities, but I just can't find it out there.

I would never work. As you stated the iphone is built to run on a GSM network, Verizon is a CDMA network.

Verizon does have a phone (blackberry) that excepts a simcard for use OVERSEAS, it will piggy-back on GSM networks.

HOWEVER, this function is disabled through Verizon if you were to try it here in the United States, it just wont pickup service.

Therefore, No, you cannot get the iphone on Verizon's network.

^^Where does Apple state that the iphone 3g can run on CDMA?? It takes a different hardware profile, its not just software.

it isnt a matter of being nice^ he had it coming with the statement Apple Says on Apple.com and CMDA if he really went on apple and read he wouldnt be confronted by helpful people.

i was just in verizon yesterday to get their internet service cause mine was crap,and the peeps who worked there were telling me to unlock it cause even tho its a "dope phone" its not verizon 0_o.., but their supervisor was all it cant be done with their network, so as peeps who already said this and in the words of verizon,nope.;-]
