iPhone 2G 2.1 APN

guys, how can I change or even set my APN settings in firmware 2.1?

I've called my carrier customers support and they said that on iPhone 3G, u just have to turn on 3G, and its working. On iPhone 2G, they don't know.

does anyone have any idea??

I tried that APN Profile Changer, it didn't work

What do you mean you dont have that option?? I just checked 2 of my 2g iphones running 2.1 unlocked...its there.

Oh, it wont show if your phones not unlocked. Because there is no reason to change it.

I have the same problem and my phone is unlocked (using tmobile) and I also installed the APN thing from Cydia.

I just manually edited the file in: /System/Library/Carrier/{my carrier}/carrier.plist

I figure I would worry if it didn't show up once 2.2 was released.

ok, I've downloaded it now, and modified my settings, but also, not WORKING

go to this path root/system/library/carrier bundles


then scroll down and will find a folder with name of ur carrier .. go into that folder..

then copy the file with this name carrier.plist onto ur desktop

then goto this site http://140.124.181.188/~khchung/cgi-bin/plutil.cgi
or
Binary — XML .plist converter - iAppCat

then convert that file so that it can be edited..

u will get a new file with same name.. just save it on ur desktop..

open that wile using wordpad

then add these two lines of code there dude..

<true/>

save the changes in the file and transfer it back into the same folder..

restart ur iphone and u will be able to edit the settings now..

What happens if after I have added my info it still doesnt work and safari says no internet connection?

I am using Rogers, now I cant get my EDGE to work.
IT doesnt even pop up a message that it cant activate it.

When I go to safari it just says no internet connection.
and i have no 'E' icon.
Long time ago i had that splash screen with "cant activate edge"

FIXED: Called rogers and said that it doesnt work and they got rid of my EDGE block, i guess its separate from the plan settings and that block was ON even after I got my data plan.

It seems that the iPhone can actually see that block, because when I tried my other phone it showed me that it connected to edge but couldnt transter stuff for unknown reason.

Hello. Let me try to help you out.
1) Is it iPhone 3g or the old one?
2) do you get a 3g / edge [ E ] icon near your carrier's name?
3) Have you tried these settings:

Settings > General -> Network ->EDGE (This is called different names depending on the firmware or something)

APN SETTINGS:

APN: internet
Username: web
Password: web

OR

APN: internet
Username:
Password:

OR

APN: general.t-mobile.uk
Username: user
Password: user

OR

· APN address: wap.vodafone.co.uk (Contract)
· APN address: pp.vodafone.co.uk (PAYG)
· Username: wap
· Password: wap

After each setting you have to turn your phone off and on ( thats what roger's tech support told me to do to get EDGE running )


4) Do you get a "Could not activate EDGE" (something like that) when you go to Safari with no Wi-Fi?

i wonder about this cuz my 2g has been unlocked since 1.1.1 and since 2.0 i have had no option for apn settings. i always use unlockit.co.nz to enter them. wunder why?

the reason is that your iPhone should be pre-configured by your network, so when you unlock and jailbreak it, you should go to Cydia and search for the term "APN", and you'll find the enabling patch that adds the editing APN option to your network settings

Cellular Data Network does not show up if you don't have a SIM card in.

Att removed setting on new firmware. You have to have wifi on your iphone then you go to unlockit.co.nz on the phone from safari and just follow the instructions.

Actually in Cydia, there's an app called "APN Editing". You just have to download it from Cydia then go into Setting/General/Network and you'll be able to see Cellular Data Network

I don't pay for a data account, yet I've added the APN settings for my carrier and it now get's data.

Do you know if I will be billed at the end of the month for a bunch of data usage?

I have an iphone 2g upgraded to 3.0 using redsn0w and unlocked with ultrasn0w. Everything running perfect with the exception of that now I don't have internet access but I do have "E" letter next to the provider. I can only connect thru wifi. any solutions? thanks in advance
