Please Help (iphone 3g)

I have just purchased a new black 16g 3g iphone on ebay, it was sold as ok to use with any of the 3 main Australian carriers, Optus, Telstra Vodaphone, when it arrived I put my old Optus pre paid sim card in and it worked ok, I then connected it to itunes and started to down load my contacts and music this seemed to work fine. I then, in my wisdom decided to update to the latest firmware on itunes, it seemed to get stuck in aloop i left it connected for over an hour, I then went that next step further in stupidity and thought it would be a good idea if I restored it back to original settings!!!! I now have $1000 iphone that itunes says has a unacceptable simcard and the phone itself is in emergency calls only (it still reads Optus in the top left hand corner with a white squire with a dot in it and a signal graph next to it?) have I totally destroyed my phone or do you now of anything I can do.


( Due to my stupidity I am not very popular with the wife!)

try to restore the whole thing back from itunes..you might loose all your info but in exchange you might get a working phone

I am guessing that optus is not the carrier that sells iphones naturally? thhis is fine, all that happened here is you bought an unlocked phone and relocked it. Just search unlocking or use the pwnage tool to unlock it again. There is one out for both mac and windows now. After you ran that tool (takes about 5 minutes) all should be well for you!
