How to setup edge/VPN with 2g iPhone from US, now in Canada with Rogers?

Hey MMI,

Sorry if this is a repost, i am not new to searching, it is just a mess with all the version of iphones out now.

I signed up for 6g/month data plan tonight, and cannot get EDGE working.

I have gone into toggle, turned on EDGE, gone into settings>general>network>EDGE and tried to enable it but i do not have any VPN settings, nor do i know how to get one that will work for me.

I bought a 1st gen when they first came out and brought it to Canada, where i have been using it with my old plan/sim card from my razor that had no data plan. now I feel like im ready for EDGE, but I cannot get it going.

I have done many searches and seen many different VPN accounts, but i do not know which one will actually work. Shouldnt i have a real VPN since i am paying for it now?

I have a 1st gen iphone 1.1.2 fw, jalbroken, youtube fix, etc. and run a WinXP

any luck yet there or what? From the sounds of it you are just using your regular settings from when it was in the states. So since it's a first gen iPhone it's technically locked. You should probably google search the appropriate link for an unlocking tool called 'Pwnage' unlocking tool, ugly name, I know but it will update ya to 2.0.1 (they're working on 2.0.2) and automatically set your data network for usage with your provider. I wasn't signed up for a deal until a few days into the update and I owed fido 330. I got it down to 290 and ditched fido for rogers now with a 6gb data plan/student 25.

I did post the answer to my initial problem the same night, it just merged my 2 posts into one, making it seem like i hadnt fixed it.

the solution was to use these settings:
internet.com
name: wapuser1
pw: wap

and it just worked instantly. that is for a US 1st gen iphone brought into Canada and using a simcard from a pre-existing razor and phone plan from rogers.

PS, i havent upgraded to 1.1.4, i couldnt find out what the benefit was, and all the iphone forums are a mess now since so many people are using different firmwares, and now the introduction to the 3g phone brings in a whole new population of users to repost and confuse things.

i have gone up to 2.0 cuz of the bugs i have heard of. keep in mind that i have been using the 1st gen for a while now. so i have the psx, gba, snes, nes, and about 40+ other apps going, and compatibility may be an issue with upgrade.

I have zero interest in AppStore, I have been getting all my apps for free with the exception of some donations to developers for hard work (zodtt, etc).

i DO want to try the iphone app for 2.0 where you can measure your 1/4 mile times and speed, horsepower, etc. . that looks pretty cool
