How to get 6gig option on Fido/Rogers?
Hello everyone I was really needing some help here, I am a 2G iphone user and wanting to get the iPhone 3G and I currently am on Fido with a $30 300MB plan but they are offering $30 6GB option and I was trying to get that but the girl on the phone told me I need to have a 3G iphone and I asked her well how can I get a 3G iphone she told me I had to wait till October but that option will no longer be available. I don't understand why I can't get that option when I have an iphone anyway to get this our is that lady just an idiot?
PS- I want the 3G iPhone so if theres a way to get that and the 6gig Data plan I am all ears they said July 24th there was going to be an option for current Fido users but didn't seem like it when she told me the same story someone told me a month ago!
Any suggestions, really curious to hear from you Eurisko since you work for Rogers.

Just go to Rogers/Fido store and make an offer ~
That's what I did (I'm on Rogers)
The seller told me that the plan is for 3G phones.
Because I have a 1st-Gen iPhone and the IMEI number is in the same type as 3G iPhone.
So... It's OK. I got the plan...
I'll tell you what exactly happened when I receive my bill.

I have a first generation iphone and after talking to 5 different customers services reps, I got the 30$ 6GB plan. Rogers told me that the plan is not for the iPhone but for any smart (intelligent) phones. Call Fido until you get your plan.

I did not have to give them my IMEI. You should not have to either.

So did I.
The ISP can know your IMEI when you use the phone ... right ?

they didn't let me upgrade my acount with rogers so I had to sign up for a new 3 year contract to get my iPhone 3G. Then I got the 6gb data. But now I have 2 cellphone bills to pay

muahahahaha I did it
I got the 6 gig option the dude was really nice and they were asking for my IMEI number I gave it to them and hes like ya thatsn ot registering and asking if i got an unlocked iphone I just told him I got it off craiglist and hes like oh ok lets see what I can do, so he came back after a few minutes and told me I got it on my phone but to be careful as it may not work.....anyone know if htis is true I assume it hsould work its a data plan not that crappy wap **** and i am using an iphone?
Also I tried getting the iphone value pack with visual voicemail and all that jazz but he couldn't get it to work since it can't register that I am using an iphone .... anyway around this he seemed pretty honest and told me that there just isn't away around it since the system can't register that I have an iphone?

Glad it all worked out well for you. As you finally found out, the 6GB plan is open to any smart phone, although some Reps will try to argue with you for some reason. But for those of you who haven't looked into it yet, this offer ends August 31st and its gone. No second chances.
Also unfortunately, the way the system is structured, Visual Voicemail cannot be added to a phone that does not have a 3G IMEI, whether the Rep wanted to give it to you or not. It's simply not possible.Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

the Reps are either lying or misinformed.
the 6Gb data plan is not ONLY for the iPhone. it's for any smartphone.
my girlfriend added this data plan and she's using a blackberry curve of all things.
She's planning on getting the Bold so in anticipation of this, she added the plan while it's still available.
dont let the inexperienced reps deny you the promotional plan because once it's gone....it ain't ever coming back.

Ya totally thanks guys, I was so worried I wouldn't get the 6 gig option cause after 6 gigs will cost $100 bucks no idea why the first rep I talked to was denying this service to me but luckily this guy helped me out to bad I can't get visual voice mail though
oh well I guess not that big of a deal.

iChopPryde, don't give up just yet! I'm with Fido in BC I was on with customer service reps and they transferred me to the Technical assistance Fido reps and after 5 minutes of waiting on hold the fellah came back and told me it was possible to get the Visual VoiceMail package- $15 - 2500 texts, VVM, Call Display and that stupid Who Called.
Just keep persistent, if you have a Data plan you should be entitled to switch your Value Pack!

They were informed that I was using an unlocked first generation iPhone. I never gave him my IMEI, he must've gotten some sort of default/iPhone3G IMEI while I was on hold, he never told me he just seemed like he knew what was up and told me it should work- at the most I should need to restart- Didn't even have to.
if you're still having problems, that's BS! Maybe its because you need a data plan (do u have one??) but I've heard of people's working without data plans- then again, those are the ones who might be charged as pay as you go data usage.

Congrats, did you pick up the iphone value pack with visual voicemail as well? It's way better than dealing with the moderated VM operator, don't pass if you're already getting a value pack...
But I performed my own overhaul. I sold my first gen, switched to rogers because fido were being morons, got a black 16gb iphone on a student $25 plan that is a promo right now and is pretty ridiculous compared to my 30 incoming from fido.
student 25 plan with rogers:
100 weekday
1000 evening/weekend
500 incoming
my 5
*bonus with 3 year agreement*:
50 additional weekday
early evenings weekends @6pm
my5+5 additional
8months with 2 songs Caller RingTrax
3 months unlimited local call
5$ off 15$ iPhone Value Pack (10$/month)
5$ off 15$ TalkSpot (not yet decided if I need/want that)
But basically I got a new iPhone and a better monthly price with Rogers. I was even able to port my Fido Data Plan over.

I had a question about this plan tho, I just signed up for it today, luckily before the 31st but I was wondering if after the 31st it resets to 100 a month for me

-Yeah so don't change your data plan unless a better one roles around, which may take a year or so, who knows? But be careful, once you change your plan/option your previous deal will no longer be accessible.

Ok i dont mean to thread jack, but i got the plan and it working, I had to use the WAP password and stuff to connect to edge but the plan is on my phone.
The also said I had to upgrade to the iphone value pack which has the visual voice mail. This as said doesn't work so how do i deal with normal voice mail?
