Hi,
Does anybody know how do enable EDGE for Vodafone in India.
I know the APN settings:
APN: portalnmms
username:<blank>
password:<blank>

The issue is that it requires me to enter some proxy settings. All these other nokia/motorola/sony ericsson phones in the market have advance settings, but iPhone doesn't
The settings for sony ericsson are at this link:

I tried configuring the proxy as per the T-Mobile setting using this forum thread:

but I haven't been able to get this to work.

for edge setting , go to setting , select network , select edge and then enter www. it is working in my phone

I have the E come up, but whenever i visit a website it says cannot activate edge.

As of iphone 2.0.1 vodafone india is in carriers bundle check this link out to make it working again.

The above settings are for Vodafone live ----- this doesnt work with iphone.
you need vodafone mobile connect activated.

use mobile config utility.
many people having problems with it i am using it.It seems to work perfectly on my iphone.
i can email the settings for vodafone mobile connect which i made if u need just pm me ur email add.

It works for me perfectly on my iphone. It brings back the option of "Cellular Data Network" in the General/Network settings.
I've had EDGE activated on my cell phone for the last four years (since it was Orange, maybe Hutch, even I've forgotten) so I'm not even sure whether it's Vodafone Live or Vodafone Mobile Connect.

Hi there, i have vodafone mobile connect activiated and today i upgraded to firmware 2.0.1, but facing issue of EDGE not working. Can you let know the settings please..

Good News ! Vodafone India Edge solution for Firmware 2.0.1 to 2.0.2. Steps are mentioned below :

1) Download this rar file from this link : RapidShare Webhosting + Webspace

2) Open the rar file. Click on the folder Vodafone_in.bundle. Extract all files to a specified folder. (4 plist and 2 png)

3) SSH into iphone using winscp(windows users) and browse to directory
/System/Library/Carrier Bundles/Vodafone_in.bundle

4) Replace the extracted rar files to the path of Step 3.

5)Now you will see some magic. Switch off and Switch on your iphone. Go to Settings - General - Network - Cellular Data Network - APN : www

Enjoy Vodafone India users.

1st u send a message saying ACT VMC199 to 111.

This is what worked for me.

I was using a jailbroken 1.1.4 and then upgraded to 2.02. To my surprize I found that Apple has removed the ability to edit the edge ( APN ) settings on the new software releases and as a result of which my iPhone was not able to connect to the Vodafone Live - in India.

The reason is because Vodafone India changed the APN from www to iphone which resulted in the new Software releases not to activate Edge.

After hours of breaking my head finally I was able to fix it.

The Fix.

Downlaod

carrier.plist ( RapidShare: Easy Filehosting )
and
preferences.plist ( RapidShare: Easy Filehosting )

and then replace the files at the following location
carrier.plist : /System/Libray/Carrier Bundles/Vodafone_in.bundle directory
preferences.plist : /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration directory

Do remember to back up your existing files. Thats it.

i just want to know, after all this hacking & tweaking stuff, is there a way i can use the net connection (edge/gprs)as pay per use, as i'been doing on my nokia earlier. i.e. no rental, 10 paise/10 kb.

iphone official activation requires monthly rental of 199. so is there a way out of it?
