Rogers/Fido - free wi-fi spots in TO?

My apologies if this is considered too far off forum topic. But as a new iPhone user in Toronto (on Rogers), I have the same concern many of you have expressed about the high cost of data charges from Rogers and FIDO. And so I want to use free wi-fi spots as much as possible. But I've been surprised to find just how few and far between these are in downtown Toronto (business core around Bay/King especially). Most wi-fi available seems to be under the "HotSpots" arrangement put together among our wonderful CDN telecom oligopoly and requires a special subscription ($30 seems to the average) through one of those carriers.

Anyone know some good free wi-fi spots downtown?

Also, anyone checked whether you can get onto the Apple Store network in the Eaton Ctr?

I tried to connect to the Apple store the last time I was there, didnt seem to work though, but I was kind of in a rush to leave as I was only looking for a screen protector. I've also tried to look for other wree wifi hotspots (that work), no success either.

Its okay cause I'm usually on campus and can use wifi there.

I've managed to find a lot of random WiFi spots. Around the city. Couldn't point anything specific out though.

The WiFi in the Apple store does work though

if you have Bell internet or mobility you can go to any starbuks and connect for free
