I sort of answered this one here.
Also, Nextel phones don't actually have SIM cards, they're part of the GSM standard, and its follow on UMTS (sometimes called WCDMA or 3G in Europe).

are you fu*%ing serious???
ARE YOU SERIOUS????? You got to be kidding me. Why are you getting this guys hopes up? NEXTEL utilizes iDEN for there network. The iPhone is a GSM phone. Do not listen to this response....NO the iPhone WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!!! on the Nextel network.!!!!!!!!!! Don't freakin waste your time and money trying to get a sim card from those guys. SPRINT(who bought out Nextel) uses CDMA....whoever said they use GSM sim cards is a flippen idiot. Google it and you will see what i'm talking about.

He didn't say they don't use sim cards he simply pointed out that they are not GSM sim cards.
And made it clear to the OP that it won't work. DONE|
Nextel uses Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN).
iPhone uses Global System for Mobile communications (GSM: originally from Groupe Spécial Mobile) the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world.

The only similarities between GSM and iDEN is that they both use sim cards. The networks do not work the same and operate on totally different frequencies. It's not possible to have an iPhone on Nextel.
Please hit the thanks button if I helped you out
