I have experience using StraightTalk on an iPhone. This subject is discussed quite a bit in the topic titled 'iPhone 3G with Straight Talk... APN info???' in this subforum.

It's a bit costly to set up in that you'll have to buy a $200 phone just for the SIM prepackaged with it. That may be a dealbreaker depending on your situation.

I'm fine with the $200 down payment for it (better then the $800+ one AT&T gave me because im 18 without any credit and that's without buying the iPhone 4 that's just for the plan)and a lot better then the almost $200 a month from AT&T.

Yes guys, it works! Its legit! Heres a guide...

If you have a iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4) and want to use StraightTalk $45 unlimited WITHOUT!!! unlocking your phone, here is what you need to do.

A few thing you should know

    1. Your phone does not need to be jailbroken to make calls, send plain text or use the internet! The only reason to jailbrake your phone is to make MMS work!

    2. Your phone does not need to be unlocked to make any of these thing work!

    3. All of this was tested on a iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, both on iOS 4.2.1, on the newest baseband. IF you have problems, upgrade to the newest IOS.

Goto Walmart (And only Walmart!!! NOT EBAY, NOT CRAIGLIST!!!! WALMART!!!!!)and buy either a Nokia E71 or Nokia 6790 phone and a $45 unlimited card. Bring it home and activate it. (other phones will not work!!! only the e71 and 6790 comes with a compatible sim) Before you activate, make sure the sim card from either the E71 or 6790 says TF64PSIMC4 on it, if its missing the P in the part number, it will not work!

After it has been activated and you can make calls from the Nokia phone, take out the sim and put it in your iPhone (you will need a sim cutter to make it fit in the iPhone 4, go here to buy one for about $7 http://www.amazon.com/Noosy-Cutter-M...8045936&sr=8-2)

Your iPhone does not need to be unlocked or jailbroken for this to work!!!

At this point, you will only have access to phone calls and plain texting!

To get your internet to working follow one of the 2 methods below, pick one, it doesnt matter which one, just one that you think is easier for you. (You can skip this step IF you are going to jailbreak your phone for MMS to work! Just go right to the "If you want MMS" instructions)

Method 1 - download the attached StraightTalk.zip file below, unzip it, and e-mail the StraightTalk.mobileconfig file to your iphone.

    StraightTalk.zip

Open the e-mail in your iphone (which should be connected via wifi at this point so it can get e-mails) and open the attachment and install it.

Method 2 - Goto Unlockit - APN Changer for your iPhone from your phone while on wifi, click/tap on continue, click/tap on Custom APN, then type in att.mvno in the APN field, leave the user name, pasword and carrier fields blank. Click/tap on create profile, then install the profile.

You should now have access to 3G internet!!!!!

Nothing further is needed if you dont want MMS

IF YOU WANT MMS, KEEP READING!

But if you want MMS to work, you will need to jailbreak your phone, to do so, visit this link, and follow all of the instructions to jailbreak using greenpois0n http://www.jailbreakmatrix.com/iphon...ered-jailbreak You can download the newest version of Greenpois0n from GreenPois0n just click on the windows or mac icon to download.

Then follow these instructions after your phone is jailbroken and is booted into cydia.

search (in cydia) for TetherME and install it. It costs $1.99, not a big deal.

UPDATE: A bit of an update, you no longer have to install TetherMe APN Editing, the new version of TetherMe already includes TetherMe APN Editing. So skip the installation of TetherMe APN Editing below

After you purchase it and install it, search for and install TetherME APN Editing, its free. <---NO LONGER NEEEDED! READ ABOVE!!!

(The reason for installing TetherMe is to gain access to the Cellular Data Network tab, without it, you cant get MMS to work!!!)

After TetherMe is installed, exit cydia and go to your home screen.

Go to Settings, then General, then Network, then click on Cellular Data Network

This is what your settings should look like!

    Cellular Data
    APN: att.mvno
    Username:
    Password:

Visual Voicemail <----dont know the settings for this one yet, will update it when I figure it out!

    MMS
    APN: att.mvno
    Username:
    Password:
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com:80
    MMS Max Size: 1048576
    MMS UA Prof URL:

How to change the carrier name from HOME to anything you want (like AT&T, or StraightTalk)

Search Cydia for a app called Fake Operator, install it. It will ask you to reboot your device, do it. After it reboots, go to settings and scroll down, you will see a new tab called Fake Operator, tap to enable fake operator, then tap on the bottom to edit the text. After you edit the text to whatever you want, reboot your phone and the new carrier text will appear at the top.

    Thats it! Enjoy

Ok thanks alot but can't u just change the apn settings via unlockitz?

wow $200 for the SIM and you are still in violation of their TOS which is very specifically worded to prevent exactly what you are doing. I'm not against it and would actually be onboard if it werent for the $200 down payment. Oh and the fact they will stifle this little operation asap. Hopefully you will not be forced to use a new sim card when they shut the door..

Have been using it for about a year with no problem. I have saved way more than the $200 down payment of what AT&T charges up the a**. From what I know, there "Unlimited Data" plan is not really unlimited and theres a cap at arounf 5gb. As long as you dont reach that cap, YOU WILL BE FINE.

No, unlockit only works for the data APN (sometimes doesn't even work if you're on a more recent firmware... YMMV), not the MMS settings. There's also proxy settings that have to be changed as well in order for MMS to work with ST.
The phone must be jailbroken to get MMS and tethering to work; there's no way around it.

As for speeds, they are better than prepaid (within the last year at&t started throttling prepaid data speeds) but not necessarily as fast as postpaid data. It's still pretty fast, as I have gotten 1+Mbps before on my ST SIM while on 3G. You're still limited to whatever system at&t has at your location w.r.t. 2G/3G.

Not usable unless you can give a IMEI/phone to go with it. Activation requires an IMEI to associate with, not a ICCID/SIM number. So unless you're planning to give the person the original phone to go with it, don't expect someone to buy it.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that the SIM would just need to be associated with the iPhone.

The SIM card was destined for a Nokia 6790 (which no longer needs it), but I also have a used LG620 that I can throw in. The LG has a SIM card associated with it, which will be included. Not sure if this will work or not, though.

Unfortunately, you'd have to throw in the Nokia for this to work, not the LG. The LG phones use a different type of SIM card and its IMEI won't activate with the Nokia-bundled SIM. Apparently people have tried to do this before, according to past research I've done.

If I may ask, why doesn't the Nokia need the SIM anymore?

Got it, thanks. I will post it up on eBay, in case someone has a nokia and just needs the SIM.

I purchased a Nokia and had ST port a number; however, it was unsuccessful. ST said a I needed a new SIM and sent one out. I didn't feel like waiting a week before having an operational phone, so I went to Walmart, gave them a breakdown of the situation, and had it swapped. The SIM arrived a few days later. Unfortunately, my phone still isn't working properly. I can call out, get/send text messages, surf the internet, but when someone tries to call me, the call cuts out before dialing. I should also mention that I'm porting a number from Skype. I find this useful because I can choose my own phone number. That was the idea, at least. ST and Skype are currently trying to resolve the issue.
