HOW To: Custom Ringtones !

Finally released......instructions on how to set your own ringtones.....

However, the instructions are only for Intel Mac users.....which sucks for me.....

Anyway, Read Instructions Here

Windows Instructions.

Any one who tries..... please post your results here.....

Ew... sounds real REAL messy. I don't want the word 'brick' anywhere near anything having to do with my iPhone.

'Strum' is just great for me for right now. I'm too squeamish for hacking like that I guess!

Yes the instructions are long. Longer than we'd like. I keep hearing how a simpler application that's all pretty and shiny and made in Cocoa will be along to replace what's currently available. I would not worry about bricking the iPhone at all. We just decided to put the warning in there just to play it safe.

I've listened time and again how the core developers for this have not been able to crash the phone and not restore it. It always came back to life. Apple did a good job with their restore feature which redownloads the 91 meg file to place back on the phone making it fresh out of the box again.

I'm sure people might ask so let me say the PPC version of this (there is a universal binary of jailbreak) just doesn't work. It gives errors. So intel only. The Windows version just needs to be compiled, no one has the time to do it! Otherwise that would be out too. They have said how they will release it eventually. I'm just sitting on the sidelines watching like everyone else. I was just the messenger with these instructions.

Keep in mind, if you mod and screw up, you can always restore via Apple.

Wow, I do think it is really awesome and hats off to those that have figured it out and those that have done it already but one of the things that would still make me reluctant is the lengthy process and the need to go thru it each time you want to add another ringtone! If I get messing with something I like to continue to tweak it... so I'm imagining how many times I'd end up wiping and restoring the iPhone before I'd have all the ringtone/tunes on there to make it worthwhile.

Hope that pretty cocoa version is on the way!
