Clarifying installation of .ipb
I wanted to clarify or list variations of commands that may be necessary when attempting to install an .ipb file. For whatever reason, I could not install an .ipb when following the Wiki verbatim. The commands that I had to use were slightly different. This may help some of you who are having difficulties.
1. Set up your phonedmg folder and its contents as per the .ipb install Wiki.
2. Open the installipb.pl file and make sure that the OS version matches the current version on your iPhone. As of this writing, it is probably 1.0.2. Make any necessary changes and then click the red dot to close and select “save changes”. Also, make sure that there is not an invisible “space” typed after the name of the file.
3. Open the .ipb file that you want to install. Make sure that the first folder inside is named the same as the current version of your iPhone OS. Again, as of this writing, the most current iPhone OS is 1.0.2 and that should be the name of the folder if that is the OS version that you have installed on your iPhone. Also, make sure that there is not another invisible "space” typed after the name of the .ipd.
4. Have the Finder open so that you can see the contents of your phonedmg folder in column view.
5. Open terminal
Type
chmod u+x
Hit space bar
DRAG your installipb.pl folder into the Terminal from the Finder
I then ended up with something like the following
chmod u+x /Users/Mac/phonedmg/installipb.pl (this is what looks different from the Wiki but is what worked for me. Yours will be slightly different depending on what you named your computer.)
BEFORE hitting enter, you should delete and spaces, forward or backslashes that end up after the file that you dragged into Terminal. There probably is a “space” at the end of the installipb.pl file. Anytime you drag something into Terminal, make sure you get rid of any of the spaces or slashes that FOLLOW the item that you dragged in.
Now, hit Enter/Return
Type
cd
Hit space bar
DRAG your phonedmg folder into Terminal
Look out for any spaces or slashes that end up after the phonedmg folder
So I ended up with
cd /Users/Mac/phonedmg
Hit Enter
Type
./jailbreak
Follow the Wiki instructions for keeping iTunes closed and rebooting your iPhone
Type
./installipb.pl yourmod.ipb (where “yourmod.ipb” is replaced with the name of the .ipb that you want installed).
Hit Enter
A bunch of stuff should now happen in Terminal like shown in the Wiki
Type
./iPhoneInterface
cd /System/Library/Lockdown
rmdir Services.plist
putfile Services.plist
exit
You must hit Enter after each of these commands.
You should now be done. Restart your phone and enjoy your new modded iPhone.
Hope this helps some of you.Last edited by dangerfish; 08-25-2007 at 08:04 PM.

Loveanh,
dont know what you did to get it to work. But the first folder inside of your 49ers.ipb should be named 1.0.2 instead of 49ers.

I keep getting this error, "new.ipb does not seem to support iPhone OS Version '1.0.1'" The first folder inside of my new.ipb folder is 1.0.2 like my firmware. Am I doing somthing wrong?
Never mind forgot to change the firmware in the install file.Last edited by ian_frs; 09-02-2007 at 11:23 AM.
