Transmit is the easiest. There's also Cyberduck. If you want to manually log into your iPhone, just use the built in Terminal program in the Utilities folder.
Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

check out quicksilver. it's a great app to quickly open any apps/folders/contacts on your mac. not to mention, you can even set it up to control itunes and do other things as well.

what all are you looking to do on your new mac? i'd be more than happy to give you some tips. also, which mac did you end up getting?

I use my Mac all the time. If I have to log into Windows, I use Parallels. It's very convenient to not have two computers. 99% of the things I do can be done on the Mac OS but 1%, I do have to log into Windows. Over the past six months of having my Mac, I have learned that there is a Mac equivalent to almost any Windows program you are used to using. It's great!

I am using AFP with Bonjour to access the iPhone and I absolutely love it.

    ENJOY

look up and download vlc for the mac, wmv codec/quicktime plug in called flip4mac, quicksilver is AWeSOME launcher. Get the flv codec for quicktime (do a search on google), pearlyrics for ripping song lyrics and automatically add them to each song on itunes. Mactheripper (for dvds rips), as well as handbreak and isquint for video to ipod/iphone vid conversions. Appdelete is great to delete all the directories an application installs (basically uninstall every single thing an app installed when you initially installed it). Camino and firefox when that 5% chance you go to a website that safari does not recognize or has problems reading it. onyx for cleaning and running the unix maintenance scripts. xpad as an alternative and higher end text editing software (really cool text editor replacement). openoffice.org, a word/spreadsheet doc that works with windows type files for windows compatibility. aurora for alarms, and sleep scheduling (ideal for when you want to turn on and turn off a computer at a set time. Hope this helps!
