i am still having no luck as yet. still get stuck at the passwd stage. I have tried all the methods mentioned for changing the password but still it denies access using terminal.
Also my ip address still does not get recognised yet when i put in the .101 instead of .102 as the last digits it atleast gets me through to the next stage, but i keep hitting the password brickwall!!! Arrrrggghhh! My patience is slowly slipping away, i may have to resort to some back street guy to fix it for me, i really dont want to have to do that!
What next i wonder?! another restore. do i need to have an active sim card in or can this all be done with no sim inserted, could this be the root of my password issue?

What version of SSH do you have installed? And when you get the SSH prompt, is it just a "#" or does it have something like "#-sh-". If so that may be your problem. If the BSD and SSH you have installed don't get along with each other, you'll hit a brick wall.
It's easiest to install BSD 1.5 and OpenSSH, both from installer.app, and that way you'll have no problems.Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

I installed BSD Subsystem and Open SSH using the installer.app. It did prompt me to update the installer.app before hand, could this be a problem?
My iphone has been modded and acidently upgraded and hence messed up! I know have a restored 1.0.2 firmware iphone with the 1.1.1 baseband which i desperately need to downgrade in order to get my phone function back. The terminal SSH is my stumbling block at the moment!! Is there not a way of upgrading the firmware to 1.1.1 and then install app tapp installer, jailbreak and then unlock the phone?

You should be able to do the upgrade back to 1.1.1, and then use the http://jailbreakme.com method to do the rest for you. Do a search for Revan's thread on doing this.
