PWNAGE'd my iPhone...but....(PROBLEM)
...phone function is not working.
WiFi symbol shows up, but AT&T does not and no bars are present.
Any advice?
When the phone is supposed to be in Recovery mode before clicking IPSW Builder, it isn't. It's activated.Last edited by shorty2k1; 04-12-2008 at 06:11 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

You need to UNLOCK with BootNeuter in order for it to flash the baseband and get service with ANY provider. I'm on ATT and I had to do it... but it won't hurt anything.

I just posted about my winpwn experience here. I think not unlocking messed me up. The lockdownd gave me phone but messed other stuff up. Maybe when I have some time I'll try again and use bootneuter.

yeah once I redid the process and chose Unlock/Neuter it all seems to be fine now.

users with AT&T iphone accounts need to activate through itunes after pwning your phone and restoring with custom firmware. to do so, you need to make sure that when building your ipsw file that activate is unchecked

I tried this last week and it ended up messing my phone up. I lost weather.app and had a very shaky signal for phone.users with AT&T iphone accounts need to activate through itunes after pwning your phone and restoring with custom firmware. to do so, you need to make sure that when building your ipsw file that activate is unchecked
I restored and re-did jailbreak with Ziphone 2.5 and it worked like before.
I got brave again and re-did my PWN today and just finished my remodding and everything seems to work even better than with ziphone.
This is what I did- I do have a legit ATT account by the way:
1: restore to a clean stock 1.1.4 in iTunes
2: used winpwn and pwned my iPhone
3: compiled custom IPSW using stock 1.1.4 that was downloaded thru iTunes, custom logos, left everything checked as is.
4: restored using my new custom firmware with itunes.
5: reset my wifi settings and set auto lock to never
6: downloaded bootneuter and ran it- I happen to have a 3.9 bootloader so I made sure that was set but I made sure Neuter and Unlock were set to "on" and FakeBlank set to "off" (I realize that ATT doesnt need to be unlocked but this is the only way this gave me reliable signal back)
6: Installed community sourced in installer and then the 4 sources that showed up afterwards.
7: Installed Cydia
8: Went back to Installer and installed Open SSH
8a: Installed Youtube activation fix.
9: Installed Summerboard (Using Installer)
10:Installed Customize (the same way as with my old 1.1.4)
11: Installed all other apps I wanted from Cydia.
12: Installed other 3rd party apps that were not available on Cydia with Installer.
13:Installed system volume boost 1.1.4
I have a fantastically working phone with the strongest signal yet. I didnt drop signal in a place in my neighborhood that I have perpetually dropped signal (it never went below 2 bars!)
NOTE: I discovered that i did not need to install fake BSD subsystem. When I did that Cydia no longer installed anything. I reinstalled Cydia thru Installer and all is well with both app packagers.
Note 2: Same hosts file fix if you want MobileChat. No other fixes needed.
Apps I'm running all working, unless otherwise noted:

Great run down on your Iphone. Glad to see you are using cydia. The "fake BSD" is only required on apps that won't install without seeing the original BSD .

Interestingly when I tried this last week, I couldn't install anything in Installer without the Fake BSD Subsystem. Today I actually found it was causing more problems with Cydia and I didn't even need it to use Installer.
I wish I knew more about using all the tools Cydia provides but I was weaned on DOS/Windows. I have an unused desktop in my basement and am thinking of trying out Linux. Just what my family would want, me playing with more computers/ gadgets, NOT.
