Jailbroken1.1.1 phone:gaining access to file structure to install Summerboard alpha?

Apologies for what I am sure has been addressed elsewhere, but my searches were futile.

I successfully took my 1.1.1 iphone back to 1.0.2 to jailbreak (using INdependence) and am now happily installing new apps on my phone.

I understand that Summerboard does not work with 1.1.1, but an alpha release is available that must be installed manually.

When I was using iFuntastic, I knew how to do this -- I'm assuming it no longer works with 1.1.1

So my question is: how to I gain access to thei Phone file system to install the alpha Summerboard?
