Question about virginizing my phone.

Hi, here is the story, I have a iphone with version 1.0.2 that was unlocked, don't need it unlocked but that's how I got it. I have at&t. I want to update to the new firmware but i'm afraid of bricking my phone because of the baseband. Is there a way to go about doing this. Please let me know. What I want to do is go to the latest firmware version without having to worry about having my phone messed up. Thanks!!!
