new version iPhoneBrowser 1.4
New release with some nice features.
Handles files and folders in most cases (in either direction).
Previews and converts iPhone PNG to standard PNG (with bad checksum right now, but Windows doesn't care). Conversion to iPhone PNG not yet working and disabled.
Allows deleting folders with files (warns and backs them up).
Does backups to new folders with date/time stamp to make manual restoration easier.
Creates folders from phone for Summerboard Themes and Customize Themes, copying and renaming files as necessary.
Greatly expanded Locations menu includes most third-party apps and stock applications.
Download from
http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/
Has options for PNG conversion, skipping Thumbs.db, turning off preview, changing preview background color and turning off delete confirmation.

Fantastic. Great additions in 1.4! Highly recommended for anyone who wants easy access to all the files (post-jailbreak). Being able to view the apple PNG files in realtime (and export and edit them) is somethign that has been missing in every application. Great job!

This would mean re-starting my MBP in windows... ~shivers~
It's bad enough I have to do that when I have to datalog my hotrod motorvehicle.
But I'm sure I'll try it... next time i'm in windows...

The program uses the dll from the apple common files folder so you shouldn't need to copy it.
What version of iTunes is installed?

I'm using iTunes 7.4.3.1

Someone posted a similar error and Cranium said it was because:
the iTunesHelper app wasn't running on startup like it should
Can you re-install iTunes or check if you have disabled the iTunesHelper somehow?
BTW, are you on XP or Vista?
I checked my development PC and I am not running iTunesHelper, but I have the AppleMobileDeviceService and the iPodService running. Maybe one of those is not running?Last edited by NetMage; 10-09-2007 at 11:55 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Love this program, but how does it actually access the phones file system? Not SSH, so what's it using? Just curious

It is based on the AFC interface that iTunes uses to transfer media to the phone. Jailbreak creates a second AFC service afc2 running on the phone with root access, and iPhoneBrowser uses the manzana library, a .Net wrapper for the iTunes DLL that talks to the afc2 service on the phone.

Does the new version work with a jailbroken 1.1.1 phone?
