How do I turn my iPhone into wifi hot spot

I was told that the only way I could do this is to have my iPhone jail broke but I'm kinda new to all of this so I have no clue as to how to do that can someone give step by step directions on how to do this please

iPhone 3GS firmware is 5.1.1

Well you can use absinthe or redsnow to jailbreak ya phone. They have a couple of tweaks to make ya phone a hotspot. They have what I love and use everyday but pricey is called mywi they also have pdanet which is a cheaper tweak but also Uses ya phone as a hotspot.

and then download TetherMe which should do just what you want.

I usta use MyWi back in the day... But im pretty sure its not compatible anymore.
