Linux Syncing

I have read some older online articles with the 1.X firmware to sync your iPhone/iPod with Amarok in Ubuntu using a jailbroken phone and some linux plugins to manage the play lists but have yet to come across a 2.X solution.
Only one I found was to jailbreak and then just copy the files over Wifi to a folder and play in PwnPlayer. I really would like a way to actually sync a list of songs to my iPhone without installing iTunes and if possible over USB too.
Anyone have any ideas or know articles to try?
