Hey all,
This is Drakenza--if you don't know me, I wrote iDemocracy. If you don't know iDemocracy...
Anyway, I've been messing around with the iPhone SDK and Toolchain and love it, but it took a whole weekend to get it compiled and running on my Vista PC and even longer to make it work on Leopard.
It occurred to me that nobody had automated the installation or shortened it. By stripping out the copyrighted stuff and redistributing pre-built llvm, toolchain, etc, and then retrieving the libraries from a jailbroken iPhone, you could do the whole toolchain installation in something like 15 minutes
Just wondering if anyone would care if a wrote a program to do this and started a Google Code project, and then redistributed the supporting built files (about 500mb) on one of those file sharing sites (probably Megaupload, as it offers a 500mb size). Then you'd have to download the 500mb file, the small GUI installer, give it your iPhone's IP address, and it would SCP off files from your iPhone and put the toolchain on your computer. This is confirmed to work for Windows XP and Vista for building just about every open-source iPhone app out there, as well as your own.
Also, if anyone knows, what's the legality on distributing the vfdecrypted iPhone restore image? If I distribute files from that image, would that be considered legal? Would it be legal, then, to distribute the lib files off an iPhone?
Thanks
Drakenza
