IMO, they are totally different!
1, file format: mp3, mp4, aac vs amr
2, volume gain
3, Record directly to ringtone.

pxl format install? Is there any way to install this without reverting back to Itunes 7.4?
There is no pxl manager that works with later upgraded fw iphones.

At least a way to add a install source via installer.app.

This is even a hassle to demo.

Install Method 1: installer.app method
Please add iPhone Recorder source http://www.iphone-recorder.com/install to your iPhone installer.

After refresh your installer source, you will find iPhone Recorder in Multimedia category, install it.

Install Method 2: PXL package method
Download the PXL package below and use with Breezy (mac), iBrickr (windows) or using the PXL MobileSafari plug in to install it.

Download iphonerecorder.pxl (1.2MB)

Supports firmware 1.0.x, 1.1.x (All known versions) iPhone.
