RedLaser - Free on Cydia
This app is now FREE for the jailbreak community. No need to pirate the app, because Occipital has decided to beta the app on Cydia for all.
iTunes - $1.99
Cydia - FREE
iTunes Store - Red Laser
Red Laser is a barcode scanning application for the iPhone produced by Occipital. After scanning a barcode, RedLaser queries Google Product Search, and returns online prices. It also lets you pull up results on Amazon via Safari, and email a product list.

I scanned about 10 different barcodes with this app today and it was only able to find one of them. It was a jar of peanut butter. Even though it told me that it was peanut butter it couldn't find any prices for it at all. I deleted the app.

If you're having trouble, did you happen to scan generic brands of stuff? Generic brands are tough to find online but we're going to improve that. The good thing is most of the time you're not comparison shopping on generic brands, and expensive stuff at the store is always in the database.
PS I'm one of the guys who created it

^ Its very nice, good job! I can't believe the ratings are so bad on itunes

Thanks. A lot of the problem on iTunes is because we haven't been able to update in over a month. That's partly why we decided to roll up all the new stuff and give it to everyone on Cydia for free.

^ That sucks. Hopefully people will give it a shot and start rating it higher. Is the one on iTunes the same as the one in cydia? I would like to buy it and review it. Its worth it

The iTunes one is older but will catch up as soon as we make it through the review process. Would love your purchase and a review once it updates there as well!

This app rawks!!
I would like to try this in the store. A request of mine is to be able to include grocery stores, or to be able to have shipping factored in. I know that is probably very very difficult, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to mention.
When this gets into the App Store version, I will def purchase it. Thanks!!And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix

I also have a suggestion for the app. Possibly add our own stores in for price comparison, this would be helpful in everyday shopping. BTW I love app. I literally cant stop scanning stuff.

Thanks guys for the ideas. I wanted to let you know about a sort of secret feature in RedLaser 2.2. You can trigger a search on any website that accepts barcodes as a query.
Here's how:
Just create a URL with this format, but fill in [URL] and [PARAM] as described below.
redlaser://?return=[URL]¶m=[PARAM]
Filling in [URL]
1. Find the URL to query a website that has product info, like this:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias=aps&x=0&y=0&field-keywords=014633152661
2. Remove the argument that specifies the barcode, here's it's "field-keywords". Remember that argument, we will use it in a sec.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias=aps&x=0&y=0
3. URL-Encode it using http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/
http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%2Fref%3Dnb_ss_gw%3 Furl%3Dsearch-alias%3Daps%26x%3D0%26y%3D0
Filling in [PARAM]
1. See step 2 above. Just plug in whatever you used before. "field-keywords" in this case.
Finally, you get this link:
redlaser://?return=http%3a%2f%2fwww....field-keywords
Just tap that from Safari on your iPhone and RedLaser will come up, let you scan a barcode, and then search the site of your choice.
