That's because there is redirects... We will do this in the smartRSS 1.1.
The best way is to check the feed on a computer before type it in the app
Here the urls you can use in smartRSS
http://wii.qj.net/rss.xml
=> the real link is feed://feeds.feedburner.com/qj/wii
http://pspupdates.qj.net/rss.xml
=> feed://feeds.feedburner.com/QJ/PSP
http://ps3.qj.net/rss.xml
=> feed://feeds.feedburner.com/qj/ps3
http://feeds.iphonehacks.com/iphonehacks is working fine.

i think i found a bug, if you change the name of the feed while its working, it wont work anymore.
I entered the iphone hacks one and it worked, then i changed the name from "iphone" to "iPhone Hacks" it stopped working.
by the way, those feeds you gave me work perfectly now

When I click on a news item it starts to load the picture and just sits until I click refresh. It then loads the entire page in. Im on 1.1.1.
This happens at random.
It never load the entire picture and text if I use the arrows to go to the next story.
Other than that I Like the interface a lot.
Great job.
Oh and would it be possible to add the option of downloading the pictures to the ipod so I can see them when I dont have wifi access ?
Mobile rss does not do that so I hope its something you would consider.
I like the interface a lot more than Mobile Rss.Last edited by TheCloakroom; 03-13-2008 at 03:12 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I really like the UI. I am (was) a user of MobileRSS and would like to throw out some suggestions:
1) Would be great to be able to import from a OPML file (or even one could edit a text file using SSH - many feed urls are long)
2) Reordering the order of the feeds (especially if can't do no. 1 above
3) Badge indicating new feeds
Also, there appears to be a bug in the new feeds indicator. On the summary page where the feeds are listed, there is a small number under the rss icon. I assume that shows the total number of items for that feed. I also assume that the number in parentheses supposed to show unread items, but that does not work. It's always a number less than the total items, but seems random. Also the "new" (e.g. unread) indicator next to an item doesn't change after reading.
MobileRSS allows for all read or unread items to be deleted. I think you have a more elegant solution by allowing us to set the number of items saved. But the new/unread indicator then becomes very important.
Thanks for the app. It's a great start!

ski2020,
We are aware of that, but since we also target 'standard' users that don't even know about OPML, and moreover, because neither Safari, nor iMail can export to OPML, we haven't added it yet. We'll consider it in a next version.1) Would be great to be able to import from a OPML file (or even one could edit a text file using SSH - many feed urls are long)
Indeed, we are thinking about a way to order the feeds by sliding them with the finger. It was too much for the 1st version and adding another screen to order it would have made the app heavier.2) Reordering the order of the feeds (especially if can't do no. 1 above)
We have to find a way to sort 1) and 2)
Could you detail it? As we don't really want to get a 500+ unread threads icon on the board.3) Badge indicating new feeds
Regarding your next comment, it appears that we may have tried to get too further in the 'new feeds management'. There is a sum of indicators available, from total, new since last launch, unread, ...
We'll try to get it clearer and more accurate.
Thanks for the post. It's a great pleasure to get comments! Thanks for the app. It's a great start!

This is a sweet release indeed, but certain parts needs to be toned down visually. The shadow between feeds is too much, and all the animation effects make the application appear slow. Slow is bad
And instead of badges saying "Today" etc. there should rather be a simple background or just pure data. So either a different background texture/image or just the date displayed as it already is. I suggest making the background on today's new feeds slightly orange. And I agree that the application should at least show today's new feeds on the springboard. Could also make the springboard badge an option in settings.

03-13-2008, 06:21 PM #13MobileRSS has a badge indicating the number of new items (just like mail). I never had more than 200...Could you detail it? As we don't really want to get a 500+ unread threads icon on the board.
MobileRSS lets you do a quick add from a list - that would make it easy for the 'standard' users. But is there any file I can modify directly to add feeds? One of my feeds is "http://hosted.ap.org/lineups/BUSINESSHEADS-rss_2.0.xml?SITE=OHALL2&SECTION=HOME" - painful to type in.We are aware of that, but since we also target 'standard' users that don't even know about OPML, and moreover, because neither Safari, nor iMail can export to OPML, we haven't added it yet. We'll consider it in a next version.
Also, I too am experiencing the "modify" bug. I added a feed (ModMyI App Launches). Because the name was too long, the parentheses were not displayed. So I modified just the name. The feed stopped working. I have since deleted the feed and added it back but it still doesn't work. Any ideas about how to fix it? Thanks.

I effin love this app!!! Thanks so much. mobilerss is so buggy and shuts down so often, it doesnt show pages properly and its slow. This app has sweet ui and works great for its first release. The only problem I see is that it never updates when a read a new post. It just keeps the total unread the same.

Very, very nice. MobileRSS is my most used app but it's very frustrating, it crashes the iphone at least 3 or 4 times a day!
I noticed a small bug. You seem to set the size of the article page before the page has a chance to download any pictures it may contain and as a result you can't scroll to read the article. If you use Engadget you will see this. Exiting and re-entering the article solves the problem as the image is then in cache.
Also, I have a few comments/suggestions, hope you don't mind.
While the animation in the Settings menu is nice, I feel it's overkill. It looks nice but takes away from the natural flow of your application. NetServices is another example of this. It's nice the first few times but then it gets annoying. Sometimes less is more!
Ordering of the feeds. This would be my top request. I like to keep my news/sport/tech/etc. articles bunched together. A nice way to implement this could be from selecting the Edit menu without selecting a feed. At the moment you show a dialog asking to select a feed. You could implement the sort here.
Unread feeds. At the moment you show the number of new feeds when a refresh is made. I think it would be better to show the number of unread feeds at all times because when you look at the main screen you don't know if you have any unread feeds or not.
Delete. Swipe to delete individual feeds. Options to delete all read feeds or all feeds.
Badge/Refresh. It would be nice if you could run it in the background and have an auto-refresh option where the user could select how often they would like it refreshed. You could then display the number of new feeds on a badge from summerboard.
Grouping. I had an RSS app on my windows mobile that allowed me to add feeds to groups. I had groups for All, news, sport, tech, etc. Could be something to think about.
Hope you don't mind all my comments. I think you have produced an amazing app and the UI is easily one of the best I've seen from any app!

I love this app! it looks great! Is there any chance later on it will work with flickr rss feeds? also, will it have the option later on to download the photos to the phone?

Couple suggestions...
I really love this app too! Really like the animations!
Requests:
1) Adjustable font size for those with aging eys
2) Preset feeds, (e.g. "iPhone", "Mac", etc.)
Thank you!
