PocketTouch, control your music from your pocket
I just saw this on another forum and wanted to share the info. I did not develop this, all credit goes to SkylarEC. Thanks alot. It allows you to control music without having to look at the screen. Tried it on my phone 1.1.3 and now I can finally listen to music and control it without looking. This is mainly for the iPod Touch users. You will be able to get it from Installer http://www.touchrepo.com/repo.xml as of now it is on the betarepo www.touchrepo.com/betarepo.xml
Edit: Here is the link to the original thread

How about a description of the item or a link to read about it, because your post is really vague.
edit: The other question is how does this affect the battery, does the screen shut off (visually) or does it just black it out. Does this prevent the auto-off from working (like insomnia).Last edited by defmute; 03-13-2008 at 12:58 PM.

When you run the Application, the screen will be black. That is to help preserve screen life and avoid images burning into the screen.
As long as MusicPlayer (or iPod) is playing a song, a simple tap on the screen will pause the song.
Tap the screen again to unpause.
Slide your finger to the right to skip to the next song.
Slide your finger to the left to play the previous song

update: just did a little testing and it dims the screen to black it uses very little battery but of course has to still be on awaiting your touch commands, i also tried it out with auto-lock and it does not disable it, autolock it still active and you have to slide to unlock if you want to get back into the controls, but i think setting my phone to always on while using this program with its dim black screen woulld still be better then using the ipod the normal way with unlocking and having the screen turn on and back off everytime i wanted to skip or play a different song etc.Last edited by kpace1; 03-13-2008 at 01:18 PM.

ok im sorry quick comment to kpace1, if you can burn an image into the screen via an LCD screen we have a breakthrough (correct me if im wrong), if your iphone/ipod can do that than apple must have released the plasma screen edition. lol. im not trying to be mean just reasonable.

this is cute but since the iphone has volume buttons on the side and a playback button right there on the headphones, this is pretty much useless

Is this up on installer? I can't seem to find it.
Also, why would this not be useful on the iPhone?

for those of you that would like to see this app working, here's a youtube video of someone using it (although he shows a few apps, and i think pockettouch is second):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCKz6...dblog;start=20
i think a lot of people are unaware of this little feature. i'm wondering if ipod touch does this as well, but i believe when a previous poster had said that this app wasn't useful for iphone, only ipod touch, i think he was referring to the lack of hard volume buttons on the ipod (am i correct?)
all that said, what i would really like to see is this app being used to replace the previously mentioned built-in feature. start music, lock your phone, and then push the power button in your pocket, bringing up the lock screen. now double tap home, and instead of the standard ipod controls coming up on your lock screen, the pockettouch interface comes up, allowing you to switch tracks, or pause and play, etc, without unlocking, and then of course it'll turn back off by itself, cuz its still locked. that'd be sweet. or better yet, just make double home tap on lock screen pause/play, and a triple home tap on lock screen skip track. now THAT would be sweet.

I've actually found this really useful for my iphone. Since I don't use the stock apple headphones because i prefer my sennheisers instead this means that I don't have direct control unless I want to double tap everytime to get the menu up to skip a song.
I leave the phone in my pocket with this running and just swipe across the screen to skip now which is much easier.
So for anyone using non apple headphones this is fantasic.

This is an awesome but maybe there could be a sort of visualizer implemented into it or even Lyrics support. Overall, good app could use some extra features.

Very nice, is there any way that there could be a user configurable option where we can change the duration of finger depressed to activate the settings screen
reason being, when i am using it for notmal operations, like changing volum eor attempting to pause/unpause from withing my pocket, it appears to be activating the settings, which then means i am unable to control the song at all.
an increase in time needed for settings, like 3 seconds - or a hot spot on the screen would be perfect!!
edit: i realize no-one here is the developer of this, i was merely just airing an idea!iDevice-less, for once. flirting with Andy Roid atm, looking to rekindle romance if the right handset comes along

This app lets me use my iPhone in my car (safely). I just sit it under the parking brake between the front seats and swipe/tap blindly away while keeping my eyes on the road.
