[pre-alpha] OtterSwitch - Set to silent mode with out the ringer switch

OtterSwitch
- Set to silent mode with out the ringer switch
This project has been a long time coming...
And it is my first application, so I will need as much help as I can get.
Ever since I got my OtterBox, I've been frustrated how I could not use the physical ringer switch because it was covered up.
However, since I'm no longer in high school, I have absolutely no use for the anymore. But because I do share the frustrations of other people, I'm continuing to develop the application and is now open source.

For now, it has the very basic and simple function of setting the ringer to vibrate.

Updates:
  • v0.0.3 - OtterSwitch now does not have a UI, only an icon and a status bar image

What is OtterBox?
A popular case that encompasses the 2G iPhone in many layers of protection.
The OtterBox also covers up the physical ringerswitch on the iPhone. It's also impossible to silence / un-silence the iPhone while in the case.

Very cool. It would be awesome to see this made into a SBSetting toggle. Good luck to you! :-)

Wow, I was starting to do the same thing myself after living with my OtterBox for a year and a half. I'll leave it to the real programmers then

Great job! Keep it up! Thanks so much!

Update

-Updated icon
-Removed conflict with status notifier
-Fixed a bug that would remove the status bar notification every time any sort of message was received

Request - How to make the iPhone recognize that the ringtone has changed.

I've already made it so the OtterSwitch application changes the ringtone, but the iPhone would have to respring for it to take effect.
Does anybody know how to make it so you don't have to respring for it to take effect?

Thank you

haha that's alright, I just thought it was somewhat common sense. But that's my fault for assuming.

OtterBox is a sturdy case that completely covers the 2g iPhone. It has two layers: Plastic for hard impacts, and Silicon for feel and soft impacts.

Thanks for that question, I'll put that on the first post.

haha more than tough.. you'd have to completely take off the case in order to get to the switch. But yeah.. that's what this app is mainly for..

I've just got to figure out Apt Debian packaging first to put it on Cydia

sounds cool. Would also work if you happened to break the switch on it to.

I would LOVE for this to be available on Cydia in whatever form is possible-individual or as a bosspref's or sbsettings plugin. Actually my silent button just broke (does apple fix this for free?), and I am in desperate need of a way to take care of this. There is not currently a way to do this, right?

Well, if anyone knows how to package applications using Debian APT, then contact me.
As soon as the application is packaged, we can put it up on Cydia.

I think that would interfere with something in the iphone internally and cause it to brick

I've been using it, switching it off and on every other day. Haven't had it crash, stall, restart, respring, brick or anything like that while using my OtterSwitch app.

If modifying the files that OtterSwitch modifies would cause it to brick, then you shouldn't use Cydia, Installer.app, MyProfiles, MakeitMine etc. But seeing as modifying the files Doesn't do that, it's obviously safe.
