I've had absolutely no issues with Cydia at all. I noticed that BigBoss has now got his repo into Cydia as well.
I think maybe its a long way off replacing installer... I installed it via Installer itself, and yes, it can be uninstalled the same way, if needs be, but given that it replaces the BSD subsystem, and continually retrieves updates to that when needed, I don't think I would want to uninstall it in any case, for fear of leaving my phone "broken" and having to start over. Its no great imposition having both on board.
I'm gradually replacing apps installed via installer with those installed via Cydia but there aren't a vast number of dupes at the moment. I am also removing sources from installer that I have in Cydia to avoid *that* kind of duplication. Only time will tell if this was a silly thing to do.

Well, after some problems, Cydia is getting pretty handy when you are using it for a while.
The last time I tried to install it, it wouldnt refresh without the manual refresh package.
This time I installed it and it made no problems...
Anybody knows why?If I could help you with my answer give me a

Cydia is good, never had a problem with it. The problem for me is when you try to install a app and the app dont work. Then you install the same app with installer it works.

I had to do a restore yesterday, been looking for the Fake BSD subsystem and find that it has disappeared from installer and doesnt exist in the Cydia packager. Does this mean its no longer needed? Saurik?

i had to do some restores because of experiments i was running, and now i was finally "ok" again, until i noticed that cydia (after i had updated it and installed some stuff with no problems) closes itself after a few seconds of opening it.
as far as i remember, all i did was install a few games/apps form isntaller, AND, when i noticed that bossprefs was not disabling edge (or at least, the switch returned to on after a few secs of "thinking"), i changed permisions of the whole mobile folder to 777.
is there a folder/file/folders/files in there that need lower permisions for cydia to run ?
i cant install the refresh package cause it gives me a main script execution error, and reinstalling cydia does the same.
i went to the mobileterminal (that i downloaded from cydia), and after logguin as root (i think, i typed su, and then the pasword), i ran apt-get update and apt-get clean, that didnt work either.

when you type apt-get <command> in terminal, what does it say?

twitter.com/dale1vMicrosoft owns the internet through Hotmail. The .HTML is short for Hotmail, so all .HTML files are MS files.

dunno, but i unsintalled cydia with apt-get remove cydia, then reinstalled it and now it works. (reinstalled with apt-get install cydia )
is there a way to manually instal cydia? i manually downloaded it, but it is a zip containg many folders, and i doubt that dropping it on the root folder (/) will do any good :PLast edited by Cocchiararo; 03-22-2008 at 01:07 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Just installed Cydia., I cannot belive I did not install it earlier!!!!
BSD subsystem from cydia is sooo much better than BSD 2.x in installer. Love the APT-GET command in shell. Now I can SSH into my iphone and install programs all from my SSH in PC. No need for GUI Cydia even.
I am most impressed with this software as it makes BSD behave very similar to Debian Linux, which is what I use every day!!!

Hmm not sure about list of applications to install, I always just search for what I need using Apt-cache.
As for installing packages without downloading, ie, predownload and install. I believe it is possible using "dpkg". That should load up respective *.deb packages.
Has anyone made any deb packages for iphone yet???
