NES.app Release Candidate 3
Yet another new version of NES.app by NerveGas.
Install directly to your iPhone through Installer.app, or download here:
http://iphone.natetrue.com/nesapp
Just installed, and it looks like the old method of making a 'system change' to allow mediaserverd to run in "on demand" mode, and the even older method of disabling mediaserverd altogether are history!RC1 [nervegas] Added auto-install of coreaudiod.plist for on-demand mode
Added 1-second delay for sound initialization
RC2 [nervegas] Added suspend for incoming call, graceful exit for power off
Removed "Allow Suspend" option, too complicated with sound
Changed on-demand installer text to be more coherent+restart
Added Swap A/B Preference
Tapered off buttons in full screen / landscape mode
Cleanup of full screen code, fixes for buffer overruns
Fixed some games not appearing right in full screen
New icon to experiment with
Fixed sound looping issues (e.g. Zelda, Faxanadu, etc)
RC2.1 [nervegas] Dropped back to old toolchain (new one hosed Zelda 2)
RC3 [nervegas] Fixed "Can Delete ROMs" preference
Added Auto-Frameskip support / preference
Use of AudioQueue to stream audio THROUGH mediaserverd
Replaced old sound channels button with reset button
Added hooks to system volume
Thats right, sound works perfectly without doing anything!
Auto-Frameskip has also been implemented and works great, although it seems a little fast.
Aside from the inherent problems with touchscreen compared with tactile controls, this emulator is on the verge of perfection, with only a certain few games having graphical flaws. (See: Battletoads and Crystalis, among others)Last edited by unclear; 09-03-2007 at 02:25 AM.

am i the only one that misses 'diagonal' movements on the controller? Shooting the gunners on Contra is impossible!
Think this a limitation of the multi-touch environment?Last edited by GravityEyes; 09-03-2007 at 10:57 AM.

Okay... i don't know about it being 'on the verge of perfection'.... Super Mario Bros (1,2,3) all sound horrible. Jumping and getting coins seem to completely mess up the sound. Is this just me?

What's the chances we get a gameboy emulator soon? Can't be that much harder...

Possibility of implementing something like this? Seems like it should be do-able...

This palm emulator claims to have got it working despite the controller saying it isn't compatible with POS... just a thought...

Wow...if that worked on the iphone...we might as well get rid of the buttons...making the emulator full screen widescreen mode.

I think its funny that all electronic devices from $99 to $6000 eventually get reduced to playing mario bros. on an emulator. I wish we could put this kind of focus on creating Word, Excell, and Powerpoint for iphone...that prints via wifi or bluetooth.

I second a GBA emulator (or SNES) so I can play FF6 on the go.

In this new version I can no longer type Game Genie codes. =\
No keyboard or anything comes up.
-------------------
Also, can there be an option to disable sound. Then we could listen to our iPod music while playing if we wanted to. Currently the iPod music just plays behind the NES music which just sounds weird.
Otherwise, this new version is great.
