haha ya..that would be pretty nice....but i think the riaa will have a problem with anyone who is hosting the songs available for download.

i dunno if it's possible, but there is a nifty little google search trick that lets you search for media files by title. This would be a nice, not directly illegal way to get songs, or even make it so the songs delete themselves after x amount of time or plays.
Vid from Break.com that may help:

...if anyone could just create an application that saves files to a directory on the iphone, this could work

i'd wait for something with a GUI or i just wouldn't be able to keep track of my files...

Seeqpod can already find the songs. Now if only we could save them when they're playing.-DoocesWild

Anyone can host the music files, just dont display the server they are coming from.

or maybe not the whole songs just ringtones

This would be INCREDIBLE...Limewire on the iphone, but better.

Limewire is one of the worst things you can put on any computer, mac or windows. It single handedly destroyed the hard drive on my powerbook, wouldn't let that thing anywhere near my iphone.
But being able to download music through a bittorrent or irc doesnt seem like such a stretch, considering the installer app already downloads packages to your iphone.

can't you just do it yourself - the installer apps and stuff are kinda gay - use SSH and WinSCP

Limewire is the best. I've had it on several computers for years and its never caused ANY problems, unlike Kazaa and the others.

Well whatever your doing dont change a thing, but i've had my troubles with the program and I avoid it like the plague.
Installer app is the single greatest step forward for the iPhone right now and with the app tapp installer its made accessibility to 3rd party apps as easy as plugging your phone in and clicking continue...

If they can find away to keep the app running in the background, then it wouldn't take that long to download a small mp3 or such at 10-15KB/sec. Who knows, we may get 3G network on iphone at a later date it would be nice to have the option to be able to do it if we want. There is away wifi access that we could get at say a hotel when out of town and would like to download something.

Words can\'t describe how awesome this app would be, but it must be a hard one to create since we haven\'t seen it already. Cmon Limewire.app
