appbackup application
I just wanted to let all you guys know that there is an app backup application available in cydia under the boss sources. The application allows you to backup the app store application data. This is a nice feature for any of you who are running into the problems of updating your applications and finding out that the data has been lost after the update. I have this problem where I go to update the apps and I receive errors that it can not be installed. I would have to delete it from the iphone and reinstall from itunes to have it load. This causes the data to be lost. With this new application, you can install the new update and not worry about loosing data as you can just restore it with the application. I have tried this on several pieces of software i.e. 1password and it works really well. Just trying to pass the word.

I guess you can ssh into the application library folder and grab the data backup then when you restore just install the app and return back the folder.
Not tested yet just guessing i've not updated to 2.0 yet.

rm ~mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist?
Hi all. Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I think this is important.

The installation instructions say:
If you're installing AppBackup for the first time (i.e. not upgrading it), you also need to do the following:Q1: Is this still necessary to remove com.apple.mobile.installation.plist?
4. If you're on 2.1 or later, run: rm ~mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist
5. Restart SpringBoard (run killall SpringBoard).
This file "com.apple.mobile.installation.plist" appears like it's important
Q2: Does it get rebuilt?
Q3: Or is it not necessary?
Q4: Any gotchas?
Update: Files change times are updated after every respring. So I deleted it. Now I'm screwed!! The spinning wheel took forever ... then crashed, and rebooted (apple logo). The Apple logo displays for 5 or 6 minutes, then a quick white and black screen, then back to the Apple logo for another 5 or 6 minutes.
What now? Restore? Please help !!!
Update FINAL Solution - WORKING.
During the long reboot cycle(s) I was able to use iPhonebrowser 1.8.1 to copy com.apple.mobile.installation.plist back to it's original location. Power+Home to force quit. Restarted. The phone appears ok. Time will only tell.
If anyone is interested, the panic logs indicate a WDT timeout. I've attached several if anyone is interested.Last edited by Mes; 01-27-2009 at 06:45 PM. Reason: iPhone will not start - SOLVED!!

AppBackup will not open
I am running current AppBackup on my 3g w/3.0 FW. The program opens to a blank screen and then closes. Anybody have an idea of what is wrong?
Thanks,

It should work fine w/ 3.0. Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall?
I'm having an issue with it crashing on 3.1. Still trying to play around with the permissions to get it to work but no luck so far. If anyone has suggestions let me know.
