11-25-2007, 08:16 AM #63Lost space on my Iphone after using Swaptunes
I don't know what went wrong, but suddenly I lost my original i-tunes library on my iphone. I kept using Swaptunes, and it made a new library. But I couldn't find my old music anymore. But I can see that they still use a lot of space on my Iphone (3 Gb). How (Where) can I remove the old songs on yhje hard disk of the iphone. Thanks

Well, i dont even have a phone yet. But this iTunes thing and that you only can sync with one computer has been nagging me. But this thing looks really easy. Renaming a folder, could it be easier?
I'm no developer, and certainly not on Mac/iPhone. But i have seen some of the apps on this page and there is some really skilled people on this forum.
I dont think that it should be that hard, and if someone does have the time to write a little more advanced GUI for this app i think it would be quit easy to allow to sync to more than 2 computers. Since all that is needed is to rename the iTunes_Control folder.
What i was thinking is a list with the original iTunes folder name. Double tap would ask if to create a new profile, if yes, keyboard appear and you enter the name, f.e. MyMusic. The app then renames the iTunes_Control folder to something to like iTunes_Control_Original, and then creates a new, empty, iTunes_Control folder. A little marker(or bold text) in the list shows that the new profile is active. Since the folder is now empty when trying to sync with iTunes it thinks that this is a new device.
And then when you want to swith back you open the app, tap the original iTunes in the list and the app renames the current iTunes_Control folder to something like iTunes_Control_MyMusic (since the profilename we entered is MyMusic) and then renames the iTunes_Control_Original back to iTunes_Control. And everything is done.
And this could be done for more than two profiles, as many as you like.
And swiping with your finger over a profile could delete that profile and the folder.
It dont sound that hard, but then i'm no developer, but i think it should be possible. We'll see when i get my phone, and if i get the toolchain working on windows, maybe i could learn how to do this.

can anyone post a pic of what should be in there?
or i can email a pic of my phone in winsc.
i just dont want to have folders in there taking up space that i have somewhere else.

I'm trying to get the app to run on a 1.1.1 FW unlocked phone is the full BSD Subsystem install required for it to work? I have BSD lite installed and in would stay on the "swapping library" screen for about 30 sec - 1 min and then go back to my spring board. At that point checking ipod my original video and music list is still available, even after restarting the phone.
Any info would be appreciated.
Has anyone confirmed that this works effortlessly on 1.1.1, before I take the chance of loosing my original library. Also where do I find binkit and how to install it.

I am having a heck of a time with this app! I UNsucessfully swapped and now have a 6+GB Orange "Other" file that I cannot get rid of. I dug deeper with iBrickr and Mobile Finder and got to /private/var/root/media/iTunes_Control/Media and was able to delete the series of /F00 thru /F13 files and got rid of about 50MB of the "Orange Other" but now I am stuck. I know there must be a way to this file but I am a little nervous about killing unknown files. Any ideas?
12-12-2007, 04:25 PM #70Large "Other" file has been resolved!~
Thank you all for the suggestions. I ended up going into the directory through Mobile Finder and removed the iTunes_Control file and re-synced... file is gone!

i sync photos and other media between 2 computers.
i understand there is a 'swapphotos' available that someone one created.
is there any means of integrating syncing both photos and ipod media between 2 computers? I mean without using 2 separate apps but one integrated app.
can i just insert the addition code into swaptunes that was posted on the 1st page of this thread to allow the syncing of a 2nd photo library?
01-04-2008, 01:40 AM #72Swap any copy as you like
I had mod the script from SwapPhoto but it can be work on SwapTunes too.
It required to install BSD subsystem and Erica's Utilities first.
a simple of the SwapPhoto are as below
# Check the current id
if [ ! -f /var/root/Media/Photos/id ]
~/bin/alert -b "The currunt volume id unknown. Please fix it first" -o
volume=`~/bin/doPrompt "Enter the volume swap from ("$id") to"`
if [ $volume = $id ]
~/bin/alert -b "You are currently using "$id -o
if [ -e /var/root/Media/Photos_$volume ]
mv /var/root/Media/Photos /var/root/Media/Photos_$id
mv /var/root/Media/Photos_$volume /var/root/Media/Photos
~/bin/alert -b "Swapped to volume id "$volume -o
# echo $volume does not existed, do you want to create
~/bin/alert -b "volume does not exist. Do you want to create it" -c
if [ $? -eq 1 ]
mv /var/root/Media/Photos /var/root/Media/Photos_$id
echo $volume > /var/root/Media/Photos/id
~/bin/alert -b "Created volume "$volume -o
~/bin/alert -b "Swapping aborted" -o
The pre-requist of swapping more than two copies are
- each copy has its own id to identify the orginal copy name
- script check the id existed and prompt the copy swap to
- if the volume not exist, prompt to create it or not
so you could create as many copies as you like, but you should manage it by your own.
And it could warn you before change.
Since many friends play my iTouch and foolly press the apps icons which changed my Library from one to another.
How to mod:
1. Creating the copy id
use any editor to create the id file and then sftp to the directory
or using Term-vt100, change to the directory and then type
For example if you has using the swapphoto before, you should has
Photos and Photos_2
echo 1 > id
echo 2 > id
2. rename the existing /Applications/SwapPhoto.app/swapPhotoLibrary.sh to swapPhotoLibrary.sh.old
3. copy the about script and name it as swapPhotoLibrary.sh to the about directory. Reminber to chmod 755 of course.
Now you can swap and create many copy as you like.
The about script applied to SwapTunes of course.
Just replace the word Photos to iTunes_Control and add the process kill under the #!/bin/bash
if ps wwx | grep MobileMusicPlayer | grep -vq grep
kill -9 `ps wwx | grep MobileMusicPlayer | grep -v grep | sed -e s/\?.*//`
and do the same thing to create the id files for each iTunes_Control directory.
Reminber it required Erica's Utilities e.g. alert and doPrompt.
It would be appreciated if anybody use my mod to new update.
