So the problem must be located in the app's environment. I do play a lot with the firmware, so I can't name it for sure. The factors involved might be the lighttptd version, Cydia, etc.
If it gets this tricky, I would recommend to decompile the CHM files and access them via PDF/XLS/Photo Viewer (which will save disk space too as MobileCHM does the same job for you, but keeps the original files).

Yes, I think I see what you mean about the environment, although I do not think different versions of lighttptd or Cydia can explain away the 0 and 1 versus OFF and ON difference in the interface - that baffles me!
Thanks for the advice about another way to view CHM files but my need is actually for a Reader which can process and show my large collection of MS Reader books without me having to process them first on my PC using Clit.
I believe the developer of Rubooks is looking at the possibility of adding this functionality to his polished application.
Thanks again for taking time to continue the thread - it's good to know our physicians are making good use of technology!

Probably not. None of the 1.1.x apps work with 2.0.
