To the people having problems in this thread......
I had ALL the problems.
#1- "error:cannot start downloading files"
-THE FIX- SSH into your phone and set the permissions of the Downloads folder to 777.
#2- "I just get a red text and no symlink"
-THE FIX- use the "/" at the start of your link so the system knows to start at "/" rather than trying to search for "var" as the root and make sure you have it at the end ALSO so it knows that is the end of the link string.
Example: The wrong way- var/mobile/Library/Downloads
The right way- /var/mobile/Library/Downloads/Last edited by one1; 08-27-2008 at 06:25 AM.

I'm on 2.1 and have downloaded the mobile safari plugin. It didnt create the downloads folder, and I believe its because my /var directory has a symbolic link to private/var. Can I remove this link, and if so how, or will it mess things up on the phone?

Ever since 2.1 firmware, I can no longer use MobileFinder to access my Downloads Folder. When I try to create a symlink, I just get red text in MobileFinder. Anyone know a solution to this? It worked just fine on 2.02.

I'm also on 2.1 and have had no luck with the safari download plugin. If anyone comes up with a solution please post it. Thanks

I can't get the plug-in to work in 2.1. I have 3G iPhone running 2.1 FW. Installed SafariDL plug-in through Cydia and BossPrefs toggle. Despite restarting and toggling and waiting for spinner, each time I go back to Safari and click an .exe link I get the standard "Download Failed/Safari cannot download this file." Can someone at least confirm this is working for them in 2.1 FW or not when downloading an .exe file? I need to determine if this is specific to my phone and possibly the other things I have installed. Oh and I've already run chmod 777 on the folders with Terminal after changing login to root.
