Thread: how to: get nes sound working
08-12-2007, 09:05 AM #1how to: get nes sound working
i am going to assume that you know how to install the application already....this tutorial is not for that....oh yea..you must already have mobileterminal installed as well..again..i am not going to cover that
first step..get nesapp working...done? ok..good
step 2: edit: install iPhone binkit from http://iphone.natetrue.com
edit: d/l bin kit from link posted and copy extracted files into corresponding folder on the iphone.../bin, /sbin, ect..dont forget to set correct permissions
step 4...login with winscp
step 5...goto /var/root
step 6..right click and click new ~> file...in the box type .profile
step 7...copy/paste this text in to the text window that is now open ~>
alias pico='pico -w'
alias rm='rm -i'
alias nosound="launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/coreaudiod.plist"
alias sound="launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/coreaudiod.plist"
# User specific environment
step 8..close window that is open..right click on the .profile file that is now in /var/root and set permissions to 0600
step 9...reboot phone and then goto mobileterminal and type "alias"...this should appear ~>
^ if the above screenshot is what you now see then your .profile file is now working w/ your terminal
to check again for correct operation you should be able to type "sound" (no quotation marks btw) and this should appear ~>
congrats..you are finished...you are now able to type "nosound" and "sound" to turn off and on mediaserved
note about nes sound...mine only works w/ the headphones and its choppy and somewhat listenable @ best but its still cool to have...
about installing each app make sure to reboot your phone...if you eff up your phone and have to restore it then im sorry but dont blame me..and if i missed anything..again sorry..im a little hungover from last night
this is how i did it..there may be other ways..hope this helps...its really not as hard as it seems

thanks for the guide, about time someone did a guide for this.
how about that installer app, how do i install the bin kit 0.6 with it???
i downloaded the file iphone-binkit-0.06.tar.tar from natetrue webpage.
what do i do next to install it??

edit: i can see where my post is a little confusing by manually installing i mean installing via winscp
you cannot "manually" install an app you d/l'ed w/ installer app
earlier today bin kit was no longer showing on installer app..it was repalced w/ bsd subsystems
hope that makes it more clear

it does not say where to put the bin kit files. the guide only states install the bin kit via installer or install it manually if you prefer.
what the permission code for the files, guess i have to install it manually.
can i do it with manzana, if i do that, do i still have to edit permissions?
sorry for all the lame questions
08-12-2007, 10:28 PM #19
installation w/ winscp would be better than manzana
it can be done w/ manzana but it would be very time consuming (manzana does not let you drag/drop more than 1 file @ a time...atleast i never could) and you would still have to set permissions w/ putty or winscp
i used same permission as used on the installer.app files
bin kit folders correspond to folders on your phone
just open manzana/winscp and look...it should make sense
and please please try to read other threads...answers to your questions are out there..i promise ~> http://www.modmyi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2062
if you are still having trouble i would suggest just using installer to install bsd 1.2 and that should do the trick as well..i cannot 100% confirm that though as i had already installed bin kit .6...i dont know if bsd 1.2 includes more/less files..i honestly dont know..i do know that after isntalling bsd 1.2 that iphone binkit .6 was no longer showing as being "installed" so according to installer.app bsd replaced binkit...updates happen so fast its hard to keep up ...again..hope this helps

manually installed the bin kit, everything works now. sounds in NES yipppey
you should add 2 lines or so about installing the bin kit manually with winscp, then your guide would be complete.
