kDialer v1.0
Thanks to herzel, here is a dialer like Windows Mobile Pro.
Install from the MMI Installer source.
Type in any string of digits from a phone # in your Contacts or Recent Calls (incoming or outgoing) and have all matching numbers pulled up, displaying the first number (with Contact name & Organization if available).
Press the +Contacts button to scroll through the matching numbers.
Use Backspace to erase the previous digit, or hold to erase all digits.
Press Call to call the displayed number.
Press Exit to Exit.
Uses the dialpad you have customized for the MobilePhone application.

a million thanks for this small and 100% working app! worked with no hitches whatsoever! love the way the app implements your own customized dialer graphics too!

this app is great as it is. i don't know if it's possible but maybe it would be a good idea to also implement the way Windows Mobile smart dials to also recognizes letters and lists the names when you spell the contact name's letters using the numeric phonepad. maybe implement a second option for this format of searching the database? just a thought.

This would make dialing so easy on the iPhone. Thank you very much.
I just wonder, if the patenting associated with T9 input method , is what made Apple to omit this feature in the default dialer!

this would be cool if this was on the phone native app but i don't see it being a good 3rd party program. this is useful app if you want to look up who's number it belongs to on your phone though.

I didn't realize that WMP searched names using the numbers before.
I have that working in the next version of iDialer as well as number search, and Recent versus Contacts searching, and iDialer functionality.
Should be out soon
I'm not sure if the T9 patents would apply - Microsoft is doing something similar...Last edited by NetMage; 12-27-2007 at 02:31 AM.

I love the way the iPhone can have the Lg Prada phone dialing interface and the other way around is not possible. (Although I don't think I'll use it).
And the icon is... very... PINK.

That would be awesome if you can make it search names by pressing keypad like windows mobile. Searching thru name by keypad is what I miss most from my WM5 phone. I really don't remember numbers.

Doesn't seem to work too well with numbers like +47 99999999. The number shows up, but the dialer will let you choose between +47 99999999 and 99999999, which is the same number, except the one without the country code (+47) doesn't show which contact it belongs to. Would also be nice to be able to choose number formatting

Besides that, it's a good and promising app.Last edited by Marasmus; 12-28-2007 at 07:56 AM.

That means the one without Country code is from your recent calls, and apparently doesn't include the Country code.
Adding number formats will be tricky.
Maybe v3

No, it happens with every number, not just numbers in my recent calls list. But does it really need number formatting? Can't it just be removed? If the point is to simulate extended T9 (xT9), you're not really interested in the number, but finding the contact quickly. As suggested earlier with searching both numbers and names, if I wanted to call someone called Verylongname, I would just type 838 and hit call. If I knew the number, I would type e.g. 999, and the contact would show so I could hit call. In either case it's just confusing with number formatting and the whole number showing. Would be better with just 838 or 999 showing and the contact showing below. Just my opinion

EDIT: And another thing. If you search by name, it would be nice if the Dialer could cycle through the contacts' various numbers and display which one is work, mobile, private etc. I don't really think the iPhone's dialer was made for xT9 dialing

I don't see this app in any of the MMI sources. The only dialer I see is iDialer which seems to be a waste of time (comes up pre-filled with 434-555-5555, and it can't be erased). Where is kDialer exactly?
