Hi I installed SMSD v.0.1 and I really like the app, however when I get a message and I press view, my iPhone goes to the native sms app, and I want it to go to smsd. I turned the notifier on. How can I solve this? Greetz

For the brave ones..

Hello Everyone,

This post is for those who are brave and like to be on cutting edge!

From now on, I am going to release a beta for SMSD before putting it on installer.app. I will wait for the feedback for a couple of days, iron out things a bit and then put it on installer.app. Those people for whom the previous version did not work should try beta and see if their problem is fixed. If it is still there then I will work with them and make sure it's fixed before the release.

So here's the first 0.1-beta. You can download it from http://amrut.joshi.googlepages.com. This has following changes.

* New Feature : Search
* New Feature : Delete messages from list.
* Fix : Sync with MobileSMS icon
* Fix : Fast opening.
* Fix : Startup crash incase of large number of SMS.

Let me know if this works for you.

And Happy New Year Everyone!

Thanks,
-Amrut!

what does it meant by 'sync with MobileSMS icon"?
If an incoming sms, and i press 'view' default mobilesms still open. So SMSD cannot be open via the 'view' button on incoming sms right?

I'll test it!

I'll give it a try today and post if any issues!

Thanks for the update and keep up the good work. I just wanted to mention that the 0.1 vers. was crashing on me when wanted to text to more than one person, I'm excited to test the new beta to see if it works now

Later,
RaMod

Making SMSD the default app for messaging

Here's how to do it:

SSH to your iPhone using Putty or Terminal and run the following commands:

1) mv /Applications/MobileSMS.app /Applications/AppleSMS
2) cd /Applications/SMSD.app
3) cp Info.plist Info.plist.smsd
4) pico Info.plist

Edit the following line:

Code:

com.amrut.iphone.SMSD

To have instead:

Code:

com.apple.MobileSMS

Save and exit pico by doing the following: CTRL + O (to save Info.plist file) and CTRL + X to exit pico

Now restart your iPhone, when a new SMS notification comes up on screen hitting "View" will load you into SMSD. Please make sure you have enabled the SMS Notifcations for SMSD.

Thanks rumple for 0.1Beta!

Working fine with my 1.1.1 iPhone.

I hope you can make an option if one wants to use SMSD or the default SMS app to open when new SMS comes in. Also, chat bubbles will make it the ultimate SMS app!

....ultimate app if it has chat bubbles and mainly (for me anyway) is being able to select mutiple contacts at once (like check marks next to each name rather than havign to add each individually)

smsd is an awesome app. But even the beta version misses things.

1) When I backup to email, the txt file is empty (0bytes).

2) It needs an option to make smsd the default sms app.

3) When messages are older then a week, they are still displayed as received on for example Thu 6.15 PM. It should be Thu 20/12/07 or something like that.

4) I don't like the text balloons in the native app, so I wouldn't mind them being left out in a next version, but an option for those who do like it should be nice.

5) What is the function of the 'sms notifications' option? For me, nothing changes when I put it on or off.

Thanks again for the great app.

Brave Ones.

Hello,

New beta (v0.1beta2) is released. Brave people can download it from http://amrut.joshi.googlepages.com

This has only one new (that too very crude) feature :

* New Feature : Bubble view.
* Fix : Beta1 was crashing while deleting SMS.

Let me know what you think about this.

Thanks,
-Amrut!

The Bubble Chat view

hey,
I tried the conversation view but it doesn't work at all (see the screenshot below) and when ever i get a message i am not informed till i exit and re-open smsd while i am already using it. Hope it helps to develop your app in a better way.
Click the image to open in full size.
thanks

Nice!!! You're getting close to perfection...

I hope in the next release you can reply, delete, forward, make template in the bubble view.

Thanks!

In the first and the second beta version the auto-capitalisation isn't working. Not too much of a problem, but it would be handy if you could correct that in the next version.

I am really looking forward to the option to make smsd the default sms app.

The backup to email option still isn't working. I just get an empty email.

The old messages still are displayed with the day and time (thu 6.15pm) instead of the day and date (thu 20/12/07 e.g.).

It would also be nice if the time appearance is the same as your iPhone (like 18.15 instead of 6.15PM), sorry, I'm European.

Grtz.

Autocapitalization : can be fixed easily.
Backup email : Its working for me. Can you try sending the mail to a different id? Some mail services block some content.

Thanks,
-Amrut!
