Where can I get the English-Spanish dictionary for weDict?
This is one of the few things I'm still using my Palm for and wish to have on the iPhone.

I could sure use an English-Italian and Italian-English dictionary. None on installer yet, but perhaps there is another source that somebody knows about?
Here.

Hey, I'm a bit curious how you got that to work. I downloaded the English-Italian dictionary, unzipped it, and found 3 files: a .idx file, a .dz file, and a .ifo file. I put those files in my /var/root/Library/weDict folder on my iphone, restarted my iphone, and it didn't show up on my list of dictionaries. After taking a closer look at the rest of the dictionaries already installed and working on my iPhone for weDict and installed in that same directory on my iPhone, I noticed that all the other dictionaries have 3 files, but with different extensions: .idx, .idxc, and .dict. The English-Italian dictionary had neither an .idxc or a .dict extension file. I also downloaded and looked at some other dictionaries to see what file names they had in them, i.e. English-French, and they also had only the .idx, .dz, and .info files with no .dict or .idxc files.

What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance,

Sponge

Manually downloaded dictionaries need to be extracted. Then rename the following *.dict.dz to *.dict.gz. Then extract again and upload via sftp the resulting two *.dict and *.idx files. The third file is generated by your iPhone once you use the dictionary.

Hehe..no problem, Eurisko. I'm good for now as far as storage space on my iPhone goes. I did the mod for moving my applications into the area where the music and other stuff is stored instead of the system area, so I've got about 4GB of space left; which is a good thing as I've got well over 600MB of application files installed so far..haha

EXCELLENT! Worked like a charm. Thanks kurosagi

I could have SWORN that I replied to this last night, but this morning I don't see my reply. Oh well, senility sucks . I DO want, Eurisoko. I'm sure that even though I've relocated my Applications folder to the Media area and right now "disk" space is not an issue, at some point it will become an issue. So, I need to plan ahead and salvage any space I can. Let me know when you have that available for download.

Thanks for your effort,

Sponge

:EDIT: Last night's reply just showed up to me now I can't figure out how to delete this whole message. Kindly disregard

Pronunciation just appears to look for a match to whatever word has been searched, regardless of language. I added my own recording of the word "gracias" to test this. I enabled the Spanish-English dictionary, and entered the word. When I clicked the pronounce button, out came my voice! So this has a great potential, although the recordings do use a lot of space.

I think if you search Google there's info about how to make a dictionary from scratch as well as how to convert various dictionaries. I got 283 hits on "WeDict build a dictionary"

Here's the link for the crunched pronunciation files. (remove the underscore)

http://rapid_share.com/files/7390262...leTTS.zip.html

You'll also have to use the patched (included) weDict which reads AAC files insetad of WAV's.

EDIT: Just place the entire folder in the /var/root/Library/weDict folder. Make sure to set your permissions to 755.
Attached Files
File Type: zip weDict.zip (121.3 KB, 186 views)
