IR-909 – Roland TR-909 for the iPhone

Click the image to open in full size.

I just wanted to let you guys know about my most recent iPhone project, IR-909. IR-909 is a drum machine for the iPhone inspired by the Roland TR-909. IR-909 features a 16-step sequencer, 4 patterns, 8 different drum sounds and the ability to adjust tempo(BPM) and shuffle amount.

This is very nice. Is there a help file or any further description regarding operation? Would an original Roland TR-909 manual tell me all I need to know?

Thanks!

EDIT: After playing with this a bit, the operation is pretty straightforward and works like most old school drum machines. One improvement I'd like to see is the ability to type in the tempo instead of holding the button down or tapping it. It would also be great to add additional pattern buttons or the ability to load and save patterns to the phone by name, so you could create and share libraries of patterns. But part of the beauty of this is the simplicity and the instant gratification of hearing your changes on every loop.

I copied the app folder in the application folder and resprunged it. The application icon does appear but when I launch the app, I can't use it, none of the buttons respond and after maybe 20 seconds it automatically exits back to the home screen. Is there something I should be doing?

I'm running firmware 1.1.2

Set permissions, as always when you manually install apps.

YEP!! that did the trick, I used SQUID to change the permission. I also have an off topic question if you don't mind answering.

why do I have two application folders?

one is located under /root
and the other one under /private/var

I did you use BossTools to move apps/ringtones/wallpapers to the larger partition.

should I delete one of them?

again sorry for the off topic question.

Waouwww I love it.
It's amazing. Now you should add some recording features. I thought Band was gonna have that, but apparently it's not possible yet. Band pretty much sucks. We should get a rewire app instead to link your IR-909, Drummer and Pianist.

One of those is a symbolic link. Absolutely do NOT delete either or you'll be in for a restore.

Thanks for all your positive replies. Next version will include pitch and time controls, and maybe some other fun stuff.

Actually, I haven't tested it on any iPhone version prior to 1.1.4. But it seems promising that you got it working on 1.1.2, swifty7.

This is great! Would you like it hosted on Installer and Cydia?

The more I play with this, the more I like it. For one thing, it's the only program for the phone of this kind that really keeps a solid beat going (Band, Beatbox, & Metronome are all pretty wobbly). It would be great to add a start /stop button and the ability to swap sound sets. Thanks again for this!
