Thread: Search - Want to search contacts, or go to a particular date in Calendar?

  1. #21
Indeed, very nice but it would be more usefull if it would search the whole addresscard like addressbook does then I consider donation.

    Is it possible?

Great 1.0 version! I think that this is an App that Apple should have included in the launch of the iPhone. For any that are interested, I have written up a brief review (with screenshots) on my blog at: http://weblog.techdad.net/2007/10/25...rd-party-apps/

    Congrats! Nice App!!!
Some ideas, for browsing other dbs like calls, sms. And then the option to delete records.

    Best Regards,
    macdo

I've been playing whith this app for a while and discovered that when you have a contact with only First Name and not Last Name or viceversa, it's displayed as:
    (null) YourContactFirstName
    or
    YourContactLastName (null)

Could you avoid displaying this "(null)" string?

This is a fantastic start! But..i'm agree with appleduc..!! It would be more usefull and profit if it would search the whole addresscard like addressbook or note or numbers...when i don't remember the last name and surname !!

Works great on my 1.0.2 !

  6. #26
I installed via the Installer and works great! I would really like it if it could search through the calendar as well. Looking forward to updates!

Great app - got it working. Would be great if you could:

    1) Show all the Contact details (email and such).

    2) If you could have a Settings area that would allow you to set the ability to go right to the "Contact Search" screen - without having to select from "Contacts" or "Calendar" (save one screen press and some time, making it much more convenient).

Any chance for these two additional features?

Thansk! Donation made earlier...keep it cranking!

    Default Amazing
Congratulations for the first version, I can't wait to try the new one.
    Nice job

I had to revert back to version 1.01b. The new version
1.02b gives me very incomplete results... I have something like 1,800
contacts, and many of those have several descriptive (and often
lengthy) paragraphs in the notes section. I don't think the new
version was designed for somebody like me -- but version 1.01b works
flawlessly! I hope this report proves helpful in some way.

Default Need Two Function Before Purchase
    1. Show full contact info
    2. Give the option to call or text next to each phone number

the ability edit the contact would be huge!

1.03b is now available (update will be available via installer soon) mainly bug fixes and detail additions to the contact info screen.

Palm style searching is now available by popular demand.

Calendar events searching is very close. Just missed out on being included in this update.

    Changes:
Non standard company records no longer display "(null)"
Fixed bug when dialing contacts with custom ringtones assigned
Fixed bug when opening to certain URL formats
    Added Palm style search method
Added position to contact info screen
Added department to contact info screen
Added organisation to contact info screen
Added notes to contact info screen

1.04b is now available. Should be available from installer in the next 24 hours or so.

    • Added calendar event searching (does not include certain recurring events)
    • Added dial button to contact search page. You can now type a number directly into the search field, and then hit the dial key to make the call.

This just keeps getting better & better, thank you!

    A couple of things:
    • it would be great if we could type a partial phone number and it would either auto-complete or at least do a search on the phone number field.
    • Calendar event searching ROCKS, if there's a way to have it include recurring events it would be even more fantastic

    Bugs:
    • With a hyphenated or 2-part last name , it won't find the contact when searching on the second part. eg, "Harris-Williams" or "Harris Williams", a search on "Williams" fails
    • Palm style searching, it appears to fail if the first and last names begin with the same letter: eg, SS for "Stu Simpson" or DD for "Dave Davenport"

    That's planned for future updates.

Should be able to fix that for the next update.

Seems to work fine for me. Anything you can think of which may be unusual about these contacts? I can't seem to replicate it on my phone.

    Layton-
Thanks, I figured out what's unusual about the contacts that are failing to be found: they are part of a long list of matches. In other words, the search returns x number of matches and then seems to stop. These particular matches are too far down the line to make the cut. The logic of limiting the number of matches found is sound, so this really isn't a bug after all, just "unexpected behaviour" as MS is fond of saying.

I think it's limited to 20 results (40 in the latest version)

If you're scrolling through that many results, it kind of defeats the purpose of searching... well that's the idea anyway.

I hate apps which are seemingly "free" but bug the hell out of you until you pay for a license fee. It should be labeled 'trialware'. Its more annoying to use (under the free condition) that I don't even bother.

Thanks a lot to the jerk who a good app the worst ever.

You know, it really bugs me that people like you think you're entitled to someone else's hard work for nothing! If you don't think it's worth paying for it and the nag screen is too annoying, just don't use it.
