Post [How-To] Uninstall 3rd party Apps
I've been installing and uninstalling 3rd party apps and I noticed all the CRAP these programs left all over my phone. Here I thought AppTap's "Uninstall" feature would actually make it as if the application had actually been... "UNINSTALLED". Go figure.
    1. ToDo list uninstalled... look, all my to do data, still sitting in the folder.
    2. Navizon uninstalled... cache files?
    3. MobileCast uninstalled... more cache files! Deep nested cache files.
    4. weDICT/dictionaries... uninstalled... look, the dict indexes are still there!
    5. SummerBoard... uninstalled... nice, Louie Mantia theme, why do I still need this?

For anyone that installed hacks and is wondering why you are missing space you originally had on your iPhone... guess what? You've gotrty klingons. For the record, I believe that much of this will get automatically backed up to iTunes, so that even a full restore will end up putting it back on your phone when you re-sync.

If you're looking to get service on your phone, and you uninstall 3rd party apps, and think they've left no discernible trace, I wanted to give this wake up call to people. I would find it disturbing to leave my iPhone with Apple for repair, only to be told, "I'm sorry sir, there appears to be unauthorized modifications to the phone here. You're no longer covered under warranty, and your IMEI number has been blacklisted."

    Code:
    # cd Library
    # rm -rf MobileFinder
    # rm -rf MobileStudio
    # rm -rf MobileToDoList
    # rm -rf Money
    # rm -rf SummerBoard
    # rm -rf DockSwap
    # rm -rf rSBT
    # rm -rf weDict
    # rm -rf Recordings
    # rm -rf Nikotalkie
    # cd Preferences
    # rm Apollo.plist
    # rm ApolloIM_Version(.1)
    # rm com.borngraphics.fivedice.plist
    # rm com.creed.vnsea.plist
    # rm com.folabs.oblique
    # rm com.gobanzai.mobilecast.plist
    # rm com.googlecode.MobileFinder.plist
    # rm com.googlecode.MobileTextEdit.plist
    # rm com.googlecode.iflickr.plist
    # rm com.latenitesoft.Sketches.plist
    # rm com.mexens.Navizon.Account
    # rm com.natetrue.iphone.nesapp
    # rm com.natetrue.iphone.nesapp.1.1.3
    # rm com.natetrue.iphone.nesapp.1.2
    # rm com.natetrue.iphone.nesapp.1.3
    # rm com.nullriver.iphone.SummerBoard.plist
    # rm com.twenty08.MobileChat.Accounts
    # rm com.twenty08.MobileChat.Options
    # rm com.zacharybrewstergeisz.books.plist
    # rm nesapp.init
    # rm net.schine.ants.plist
    # rm org.deliciousmonster.lightsoff.plist
    # rm vnsea_servers.plist
Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain the last thing I'll be uninstalling is Installer.app, which will inevitably leave its own preference folder in place. Maybe if I delete its folders via iBrickr and THEN hit the uninstall button.

***May be we could develop a 3rd party app to clean the iPhone of leftover folders and files***

Members feel free to post your reply's with 'leftover' removal tips for 3rd party apps that are not listed here. It will surely be of great help for the others, as even freeing 1MB can fit many ringtones ;-)

If anybody has sorted out Apache, I'd love some help. It's broken, listed in installer, but won't uninstall (script execution error).

FYI - when you uninstall iSwitcher v1.56 it removes the app folder and any and all themes. 100% removal, it's not hard from the 'packager' point of view....

    With that said....
I'm not sure I would want to go messing with data files, like in the ToDo app. What if you are only uninstalling it to try and resolve a problem. Do you really want it to delete your data file too?

I noticed this too... I just cleaned out my Library when I was I realized I had a buncha crap after a clean restore/jailbreak to 1.1.1

I noticed I still have a relatively low MB amout available.. 40 something... I used to have well over 100. Does it have anything to do with what's located in /var/root/Library/Installer/ perhaps those .datXXXX files?

Update: So I tried removing the Installer file from /var/root/Library/ and from /var/root/Library/Caches/ and then manually uninstalled and reinstalled Installer.. still have MBs in the 40s available in Installer.

The new 1.1.1 firmware (both on the iPhone and the touch) is fairly big in itself.
    150MB infact.
Even on a brand new device straight out of the box with nothing extra installed you will only have about 40-60mb free space. Probably closer to 40mb on a phone, 60mb on a touch due to the extra apps included on the phone by default.

is there only a certain partition available for apps? I have an 8gb iPhone... why can't I have 8gbs of apps? ...maybe not 8gb, but you know what I mean.

I actually posted a solution for this problem Here

It's not necessarily a "simple" fix, but it works

Awesome, that's prefect. Thanks! If only the text actually told you the correct amount available after the mod.

Oh, and does this mean I was right about there being separate partitions? Why would they even split it up like that??

Im in a situation that I need to send in my phone for service (the bottom 1/2" of the scren doesnt respond) and am looking for a way to clean it. I did a full restore and then went back in to see if anything was left to see all the residual files, but my pics, music, and movies were cleaned out. So, if I move all my apps like in above to the same partition as the pics/music/movies, would a restore clean me up?

I am also running into a similar problem. I just upgraded to a jailbroke 1.1.1 and I am now running installer. Problem is the Installer says I have some programs installed (like summerboard and dock), but they are not on my phone, but I bet some random files for the apps still are (and the uninstall button fails). Is there anyway I can make Installer think they are deleted and reinstall them? Or SSH into the phone and find out what files are making installer think it is still on my phone? I am pretty sure the 1.1.1 backup also backedup my old hack files because I still am finding a lot of old files from old apps on my iphone. Oh yeah, and I am also getting the low MB on installer now also.

Same problem I have as well 'monkeys!

I was able to "uninstall" several of the missing apps, which successfully removed them from the installer.app installed section and this enabled me to re-install these. However, there are several that won't uninstall cleanly (the uninstaller fails because, presumably, the software isn't there) and so I can't re-install them from installer.app. installer.app needs a feature to where if the uninstaller fails in this way it should offer to remove the application from the installed list, or at least let you always reinstall something.

How/where does installer.app get its list of installed apps? I assume it'll be pretty easy to hand-edit this if I can find it.

Any help here would be appreciated.

In answer to my own request for help...

The file that installer.app uses to track what's installed on the phone is:

    /var/root/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist

I connected via SCP, copied the file locally, made a backup of the file, edited the entries that weren't on my system out of the file, saved it, and put it back on the phone with SCP. After that, I ran installer again and it was all good. I was able to install all the right stuff, etc.

    Hope this helps!

I'd love to see a write up like this for dropbear ssh. I really don't want that crap on my iPhone and would rather use openssh but I seem to muck things up when I try to manually remove it.

yeah. it would be great to have an app for both 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 that would clean out the apps you don't want and free up space.

Same issue here guys. I just used iFuntastic to upgrade to 1.1.1 jailbroken. All of the apps I had installed showed up on installer, but none worked. I tried to uninstall a few of them, then reinstall them, which worked fine. But summerboard and dock both would not uninstall. If I knew what files to remove I could just use iFun to do it, but I don't.

    Anyone else having this issue?

But how will you able to edit the "/var/root/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist" if can you can no longer connect via SCP? Most of the users who are having this problem can no longer connect via SCP to replace that file.

Even after trying again the "Install SSH" of Independence, it still won't accept any ssh/scp connection.

Any solution to this problem? Thanks
